Question 300C CRD Centre Air Intake

Why would the CRD "need" the extra air flow into the engine compartment?

GT...

Without checking directly with DC UK as to the exact reason, I can only presume that the diesel unit requires a greater degree of cooling.

John...

I can confirm that within the UK it is legal to affix a front number plate by sticking it directly onto the bumper area. Problems only arise when the number plate is stuck onto an area whereby it is not readily visible i.e on the top of the bonnet (or hood as you would refer to it!) .

The additional centre opening on the bumper facia is only applicable to the CRD model.

John, just wondered if you intend to fit the OEM front number plate mount in the inverted (upside down) position or are you fitting an alternative mount?

BTW...your car looks terrific!

Geordie
No, we just had an SRT8 bought with one here in the states I believe.

Murphy The Cat method

Standard method

If anyone would like instructions as to how to do the job, please drop me a PM, it takes about 5 Minutes, costs nowt and you don't need to cut/drill anything. After looking at bolt on to the bumper fittings and my patented Murphy The Cat version, I know which version that I prefer !!

And while I'm at it, according to www.craigsplates.com stick on numberplates are NOT legal for road use, only for "show" use. Mabye worth checking further.

& finally folks, I understand that the extra vent is their to add air cooling to the oil cooler & turbo intercooler.

MTC

p.s. John, your car looks fantastic. Enjoy your 600 mile round trip.

Hi MTC...

Are we at crossed purposes here? If the number plate conforms to the legal requirement with regard to design; spacing of characters etc., then why can it not be affixed (i.e. stuck) to the front bumper area notwithstanding that it is clearly visible and at a right-angle to the vehicle?

Aye, it does seem odd, but it was one option I looked at before settling for the patented Murphy The Cat numberplate mount.

This is from the DVLA, look at FAQ #26. Also on www.craigsplates.com
if you try and order a plate for road use, if you select road use, you don't get an option for stickies !

Hi Again MTC...

Have just checked personally with the DVLA who confirm that you CAN stick the number plate to the front bumper if the actual number plate to be used conforms to the required regulations. When they state that 'stick ons' are not allowed they are referring to the soft roll up type i.e. the type which used to be stuck direct onto the front edge of the bonnets of sports cars e.g. Jag E-Type etc.

Hope that puts the record straight.

Regards

Hi Geordie

that's certainly good news for anyone who is going down the sticky plate route.

I took this to mean NO

26.Are stick-on number plates legal?

No, number plates must meet the British Standard requirements and we are not aware of any self-adhesive number plates that are able to meet these requirements.

But in true Government fashion, no means yes if you ask some one else !

However, you mean self adhesive acryllic plates to mount, the answer is YES, you can put these on. Just be aware before ordering these that the 300C front bumper does have quite a bend & sharp nose. With the numberplate mount on the car it is quite deceptive. The numberplate has to be flexed quite a lot to get it to fix.

Phew. Is that clear for everyone ?
