Thumbs down Discounting Has Started On UK 300C!

Hi all...

Just noticed that the internet broker www.drivethedeal.com are offering the 300C CRD on the road for £25248 a discount of £502. All factory fitted options attract a similar discount. When I did a check with them re delivery dates they claim they can provide a car from a UK DC dealership beween 1 to 8 weeks!

Suppose it was just a matter of time before the discounting started.

Discount

Hi Gordie I when i ordered my car back in Jan i could get about £1300 off from TSB cars on the internet but i decided to buy from my local dealer who gave me £1000 pound off and they said the car would be deliverd direct from a UK dealer, the car fully spec'd was £29,000 and i paid £28,000 but when i called other dealers they said no way as the only get 1 x car a month their was no need to discount so i ordered from my local dealer who gave me the £1000 off so i dont think i had a bad deal.

It's a funny old world isn't it ?

The waiting list for a CRD is currently 4 - 5 months.

some dealers have cleared their allocation for the year.

The dealer taht I bought my car from offered to take mine back off me last weekend for the same price as I paid for it, reagrdless of 4000 miles added and two months of ownership.!

But human nature says that there is always someone out there who will buck the trend.

When I saw the drivethedeal deal, I did wonder how "kindly" they would look upon your trade in.

The CRD is/ must be the best value bang for your buck car on the road in Britain at the moment. Whilst I (of course) wanted a deal when I bought Arnie, I truly hope that DCUK don't screw the pooch by letting the dealers undermine their pricing structure.

MTC

p.s. the same company are offering 3/5 BMW diesels & Merc C/E class diesels at 8 - 15 % discounts. Perhaps Joe Public is catching on about how over priced the German cars are at long last.

We have this situation now in the USA with 300 SRT8's. Some dealers have 5 on their lots. Others are still asking 10% markup over sticker -- marking up above sticker is legal in the USA. The cars are still somewhat rare but if you look they are now available.

I guess it depends on the dealer's preferences. One sale at 10% markup can pay the rent for a while all by itself. It's still possible because the car is scarce. But some dealers are in a hurry to make any sale.

Hi there BB...

Yes...I also used the same LloydsTSB Car Select deal to broker my local dealership into a similar deal that you obtained and I am more than satisfied.

It is amazing what differences and attitudes are apparent amongst the dealerships when you do the initial trawl. I had two other DC outlets near to me who would not entertain the idea of any discount albeit I had no part exchange and did not require finance.

Great to see that MTC has been offered the full OTR price for his CRD by his local dealer after 2 months and 4000 miles! It doesn't get much better than that and it is good to know that the majority of DC dealerships have a long waiting list for the CRD.

Regards

Just a quick one guys, this offer has been battered blue by DC as the broker is unable to provide cars! Simon Elliot, MD DCUK, recently wrote to CAR magazine who first carried the story last month to complain. The discount is based on an assumed rate and is not actually negotiated with dealers.

I'm afraid discounting in the Chrysler network is inevitable, particularly during March. We have one CRD left for 2006, so why on earth would we offer discount? However, if that one CRD was the car that made our target for the quarter...... who knows?

Lastly, we have just bought in a 3.0 CRD at one of our branches. The vehicle has lost less that £1500 from brand new, so no shame then!!!

Hi Geordie,

My dealer in Swansea told me last month that they had already sold every car due in until November 2006. Every time they get a CRD demonstrator someone buys it immediately.
There may be discounts on the 3.5V6 coming as dealer told me there are rumours they may discontinue this in the UK............CRD has better performance, much better economy and same list price.

Hi there XJ...

Yea...I think you are absolutely right re the CRD. I had to travel way outside of my area to find a DC outlet who had a CRD demo available.

Very interesting rumour re the 3.5 petrol model possibly being phased out in the UK. I wonder if our resident DC expert 'Belmont' can confirm same?

Regards

Hi Belmont

that explains a lot then. Geordie and I were looking at a deal that looked superb a while ago, but in the end we both decided that if it smells like a fish, acts like a fish & looks like a fish then it is probably fishy after all.

On eof the things that I sell a lot of is lard (sexy ain't it), which is quite a price sensitive article. I reproduce for you a recent conversation about the price of lard.

Customer "oi Cat, how much is a box of German lard at the moment ?"
MTC "at the moment a 12.5 Kg box of German is £8.11"
Customer "you robbing Moggy, the other fellow I get lard from sells his for £7.50!! "
MTC "£7.50 is a good price and I can't match that. I suggest that you get some from him for the time being"
Customer "But that's the problem. He doesn't have any to sell at £7.50"
MTC " oh I wish that you'd have said. When I don't have any stock, mine is only £6.00"
Customer "Cat you're a git, I'll have 6 boxes @ £8.11 then".

sometimes instead of holding back, it's nice to actually say it.

Since when are lower prices are bad for the consumer? I see the discounts as good news for everyone, except Chrysler.
