Thumbs up Uk 300c Insurance Cover

Hi there UK Owners...

Being a gentleman of leisure (sounds better than pensioner) I have been doing the usual trawl of Motor Insurance Companies / Brokers / Internet Insurers etc for the best deal in advance of my intended 300C CRD launch next month.

Whilst premiums fluctuate markedly akin to risks associated with age, motoring history, occupation, acquired no claims bonus etc it would nevertheless be interesting to know what differences there are with quotes from the various insurers in the UK.

I have a maximum no claims bonus, accident and points free history and my best quote to date for the CRD with all factory options for a fully comp. policy with protected bonus from More Than is an annual premium of £247.68 which includes legal assistance and travel accident plan. I doubt if it can be bettered? The highest quote (cant remember the company) was for almost £500.

Regards

Geordie

Hi Geordie, I suspect you are right and this will be hard to beat. Have you tried DC's own insurance? We've had fantastic reports from customers regarding the premiums. Don't have a number today, but will post tomorrow from work!

Hi there Belmont...

DC were first on my list but unfortunately were not competitive for my particular circumstances. Can't recall the exact quote but they were expensive. They still had my personal details on file re a quote I got from them for a Mercedes I had a few years ago. Thanks for the try!

Hi Belmont

at the risk of sounding like an advert for DC, I got both my finance and insurance from DC because for ME they offered a bloody good deal.

My circumstances are different to Geordies in that I needed cover for company use and this usually sets premiums heading upwards, but in my case it was very reasonable. For a 38 year ols with full NCB (protected) fully comp for company use with Mrs Cat on as well it came in at £511 which was pretty damn competitive ( for me) before they pitched in with £65 wine vouchers & a 10% discount for myself & Mrs Cat because we both have Chrysler cars, plus the level of cover was very generous. Very satisfied.

The finance was very competitive as well. I'm ver old school and I prefer straight up HP rather than contract hire/PCP/leasing etc and again DC did the biz. I buy my cars as company cars and the company pays the bills, but I have them registered and insured in my name. Not all finance houses will accept this, but once again no problem with DC.

I was also on the insurance look out.

And my cirsumstances are NCB 2 years
3 points back in 2001 for defective tires. (long story - I was pulled because I had a distinctive car is what he said - I just took it to mean a young guy in a fast sports car - he spent over 40 minutes checking my car as he was training a new starter then said the left rear was 1/2 millimeter too low, I said it had just had a service 3 weeks earlier and he said it could wear 1/2 a milimeter in 3 weeks. By this point I just gave in.)

Also accident my fault back in Apr 04 (only rear light on other car broken - no damage to the my landrover).

And my highest quote was £1589.24 (that with the tracker fitted)

And the quote I went with was RAC who gave a great quote of £568.19. This great deal includes if the 300c is written off or stolen unrecovered in the first year I can either take the street value of the car (it will be low as all cars depreciate about 20-30% once off forcourt)
Or I can have a brand spanking new car. with delivery milage no matter howmany mile I do in the first year. also include the usuals such as legal cover etc.

PS i was told if I was an RAC member I would have got about another 10% off.

Just giving the heads up to a great deal.

hints for getting cheaper insruance are
1) use insurance supermarkets - moneysaving expert is best
2) change your profession to get better quotes. e.g I own an IT consultancy company and I played with IT programmer, company director, computer manager. ETC ETC
3) make sure your covered for commuting, I noticed not all companies cover commuting as standard, they just say leisure and social.
4) always be honest
5) online quotes really are cheaper (but ring after you get the quote to finalise the deal and try for a reduction)
6) keep looking around
7) book your insruance close to the expiry date. (seems weird but its true if you try and get a quote too far online they predict the national rise of risk in the next few months)

Thats about all

Hi Zoro

I am a huge fan of www.moneysavingexpert.com the more people that use that site, the better (It is only relevant to Brits though).

Did you try Daimler Chrysler for a quote ? For me they offered very good value (some insurers didn't want to know with me owning the company that the car was registered to and needing the car insured for company use).

another good source of insurance quotes is www.confused.com much more in depth than www, insuresupermarket, com but it takes a few minutes longer to fill out the form.

How does the £10000 of mods on your car affect the insurance premium ?

I tired confused but the lowest quote was over £700.00.
The RAC quote came form www.moneysavingexpert.com. A great site like you say for any kind of deal your looking for.

The mods don't affect the insurance, and I have insured for the value of £30,000.00, and all mods are DCUK fitted so are included on my invoice for the car.

I have confirmed this with the insurance company. (this is the phone call afer I got the online quote).

I didn't try DCUK maybe I should have as it seems a few people have had good deals. I can ring them tomorrow so I can post a comparrison quote if you want?.

PS I told the guy at RAC about my wheel locking nuts (going to fit two different makes to stop the wheels getting nicked) a total of 8 locking nuts on the car from two different makers. (no reduction was made for this, but admiral did offer a small discount for this extra security).

that's good going and proves that honesty is worth it - if you hadn't told them about fitting £2500 20" moonstar whells and then they were nicked they would be well within their rights for refusing to pay out & cancel your insurance & blacklisting you for the future. In my experience, addind mods hasn't affected the premiums - but adding performance related mods (new exhaust, chipping etc) can really do some damage to you premium.

MTC

p.s. are you sure taht it was www.moneysavingexpert.com (a consumer advice site that you used and not www.moneysupermarket.com ?

Have you followed the MSE links on flight prices - common sense, but wow, huge savings to be had.
