MPG readings

I initially understood the vehicle computer to be reading in US gallons, which are approx 0.8 Imp gals (US gals x 1.2 = Imp gals).
US miles are same as UK miles.

Upon doing some checks, it would appear the readings are in Imp gals, meaning that the fuel consumption figure is UK mpg.

So far, with 250 mls on clock, I a averaging 28 mpg mixed driving, or approx 10litres/100km.

Any findings from other owners??

Check your EVIC, see if it's U.S. or U.K. Mine is Canadian but shows U.S.

Have a look at the following thread: Geordie's Got A Delivery Date!

Without using the computer, and brimming the tank, I was getting around 29 mpg on my first fill at about 150 miles, then I got 30 mpg at about 400 miles, then 32 at 550 miles, then 33 last weekend at about 750 miles. This is in mixed medium distance / some in town driving. I haven't yet used the car on a long business journey, and unfortunately can't yet until my previous car goes back in 14 days time.

What I can definitely say is that the EVIC computer on my particular car is reading in US, as when switching from metric to US it says that 7.9 litres/100km is the same as 29.7 mpg.

I will need to get it in for the software update soon.

They tell me that the fuel consumption keeps improving until the engine is fully run in - and at 950 miles I think it is still early days yet.

Hi Bill300C

A quick check on how to find if your EVIc is talking US gals or Imp gals is by checking the EVIC version. If your EVIC is version 4.08 25.10.05 , then your on Imp gals, If your on an earlier version then you on US gals - not 100% guarenteeing this one, but I'm led to believe that going to the dealer and getting your EVIC flashed brings it up to the latest version 4.08.

I did a 210 mile high speed motorway run today (well 80-85mph keeping up with traffic) with my car fully loaded up and got 34 mpg.

Arnie has now cracked 5000 miles and I can say with complete confidence the following :-
Until the engine is fully to temp, Arnie drinks quite heavily - driving steadily Arnie takes 8 miles to get to full temp.
Driving in the lower gears really buggers up your overall consumption. If you have a journey to make via the motorway (higher speed) or via A Road (lower speed), so far I have found (fuel consmption wise) Arnie to be more frugal at a steady (high) speed than at a lower (say 60mph) speed and stopping for traffic lights, road junctions etc.

On 2 x recent 600 mile = round trips on motorways, Arnie averaged over 36 mpg (At a highish steady speed). The best mpg I have had so far is 42 mpg on a 100 mile trip obeying all speed limits (not an economy trip - just a speed limit obeying one).

Over this weekend I had to do a license losing (if caught) very high speed dash to a hospital 15 miles away. Let me tell you once and for all that when the need arises a 300C CRD goes like stink and clears the road like no other car I have ever driven. I can't say what it did for the mpg though.

CRD performance

Hi,
After having clocked up 2500 mls in my CRD, I can only only agree with your experiences. Warm up time is at least 8 mls and consumption is heavier, the longer it runs, the easier the consumption gets, with a heavy car, acceleration needs fuel, and motorway type constant speed runs are best. I have seen 36 mpg at a steady 80 -85 mph, with an occasional 110 mph burst (encounter with Nissan Skyline, (on a private road - not)). The engine is very tight when new, and it needs a lot of loosening up, I think we wont see the best until it is over 12000 miles at least. When new there does seem to be a bit of a flat spot at times, but this is reducing as miles go on.
The only negative thing I have to say at this point is my experience in crosswinds, where the car does tend to be a bit affected, and more driver input is required. Otherwise, the owners experience is great, so much attention and great feel good factor when driving, like no other car i have experienced. Courtesy from other road users too is very good, always being given way to, let out of junctions, moving over on dual carriageways, some neagative experiences will be encountered no doubt, but to date the experience has been very good.

Came across this US/UK MPG conversion site which is quite useful for those of us with older EVIC software versions.....

(Updated 29/4 to new better link, the last one was full of banners etc.)
