Then just burn them to CD-R (or RW - although i've not tried RWs in the new stacker yet). If you're using CDex, use the "CDDB" option to automatically encode all the title information (it gets it all from an internet database of CD info).

Cheers, Just
I am using a nice tool called RecordThisNow, available from FuzLez.com. It just streams all you hear from your speakers to MP3 files. So I let it stream a few hours of radio at night to a file, drag that to a CDr and pop it in the car. They got a trial version as well.

There are more products that record radio, but this one is just so much easier to use.

Until now that is !!!!

Because this week I'm getting my Cd Changer fitted to Arnie by my friendly Chrysler dealer. So at long last I'm going to have stackability without the Sat Nav.

One of the very, very few things that I have found with the 300C is about to disappear for ever.

p.s. I saw my first 300C on the road on Friday night. It was just at the Southern end of the M6 Toll at about 07.00 ish. If it was you, hello !

If it was Black with tinted rears then it was me. I love the drag race after you pay at the toll.

Hurray Johnny Alpha

We've just had our first (brief) forum meet and greet !!

How sad is this then ? I went into the EVIC and set it for % pedal postion to see how long I could keep it at 100% for the After Paying Toll Barrier Lifts Up Drag Race - I can't tell you how long I was on 100% for, but I can tel you that noone came even close to keeping up with me.

MTC

p.s.this is how the conversation went in the car when I spotted you.

"hey look Mrs Cat, theres a 300c going the other way" said MTC
"hmmm" said Mrs Cat
"it could be someone from the forums, its a pity we don't have a special signal to say hello with" said I
"you really are a sad muppet at times, now just drive"
tsk the cheek of it.

Hi Murph,

I have the standard single CD player in the dash with the subwoofer upgrade. Like you I did not get the sat nav system. It will play recorded CD's only if the music is uncompressed as on a normal music CD. It will not play a CD with MP3 files copied onto it, which is really annoying.

Can I just check with you or anyone else reading this, if you go for the 6 CD changer upgrade, will this then play CD's with MP3 files on them?

Yes It does! That's why I went for it rather than the single CD.

Externally it doesn't look any different, Mrs Just was a bit surprised - you paid £400 for that... its the same. Well what can I say!

She was soon smiling when I showed her how it plays MP3s. I reckon I can have about 80 albums loaded in it at any one time, and a few more in the glovebox.

I still reckon that it fits in with the look of the dash better than the satnav unit.

Hi Just

OK can I lean on you for some MP3 advice please ?

I have downloaded CDex (as you suggested) and I've copied my CD onto the PC in compressed format, I have contacted the remote CDDB to get the CD information and it is sat there waiting for transfer to CD. This is where I really show my ignorance - how do I now transfer it to CD in MP3 format ?

I hope that you can help me as I've got Blue Horizon by Wilbur Smith on 26 cd's just waiting to be worked on.

Cheers

MTC

p.s. Xenon Dave, my audio handbook says that my single CD player DOES play MP3 discs, but that they have to be set up in a particular way. I've got the instructions in front of me, and to me it sounds quite complicated, but to a regular MP3 user it will be a piece of p*ss.

.
Well my feline friend, your compressed files are MP3s. If you now use any proprietary CD burning software such as Nero (comes with many PCs), Roxio, EasyCD creator etc. or you can even use windows explorer in XP to drag the MP3 files from where you saved them to your CDR drive - then burn them - unfortunately CDex doesn't actually burn them for you.

If you have a number of different files, you need to decide how many you want to, or can fit on to your MP3 disc (usually max 700 MB).

Let me know how you get on!

Hi Just

I'm following your advice while I write !

I do indeed have Nero and that is what I'm using. My first trial is with a James Patterson 11 cd story, & then I'll move on to the Wilbur story later. In CDex i've turned down the bit rate to 128 bit for audio CD and I'm also only copying in mono (books nearly always are in mono) so I should be able to get even more on each cd

As I only have CD RW kicking around the house, that is what I'm using, so hopefully I'll get good results. Time to go, CD 2 has just finished.

see you later

Hi Murphy,

I am now sitting here with the audio manual! The RAR 6-Disc security radio on page 7 does seem to play MP3 discs and the details of acceptable files are given as you say on page 12.
However the standard radio-Cd player is the one on page 18 (REG-LW/MW/FM/CD Security Radio). Even though it looks almost identical to the one on page 7, this one does not seem to play MP3 discs...damn.
I bet if they put just £2 worth of extra computer chips into it it would do so. No, they want you to fork out £400 for the option.
I could buy an MP3 portable CD player for about £25 or an iPOD and one of those radio links for another £20 I suppose, keep it in the arm rest and just tune the radio into it.
Thanks for trying anyway!

Hi Xenon Dave

I'm sorry if I've sent you on a wild goose chase for nothing - I think that its a case of my memory playing tricks on me.
My friend has an Ipod FM transmitter thingy in his car and it works really well, it is however illegal (why) to use in the UK (if that bothors you).

MTC

update

Xenon Dave , you are absolutely right about the single cd player not doing the MP3 thing. I'd been reading my CD manual in a cack handed fashion and misread the radio description title - sorry.
