6 Disc Changer option

When the 300C was launched in the UK, the option list showed a 6 Disc changer option that was available. Sadly if you tried to order it you found out that it was only available if you opted for Sat Nav as well - I personally prefer Wife - Nav and so for me it was no good.

Until now that is !!!!

Because this week I'm getting my Cd Changer fitted to Arnie by my friendly Chrysler dealer. So at long last I'm going to have stackability without the Sat Nav.

One of the very, very few things that I have found with the 300C is about to disappear for ever.

MTC

p.s. I saw my first 300C on the road on Friday night. It was just at the Southern end of the M6 Toll at about 07.00 ish. If it was you, hello !

Aparently Murph you can not pause the CDs??? Thats pooh!

Also I vent to my local Chrysler dealer and even though my EVIC version is 4.06 they say that because my car is '06 registered there are no download options to 4.08.

That sound right to you? He showed me the computer that they update with after puting my chassis number on it. They say it has already been done????

On my car it says

CCN Sofware Info
7/05/05 v4.06

What you rekon to all that cat?

Hi C5HEA

after talking to my local dealers service manager, he reckons that your man is pulling your leg and giving you some B.S.

My car was built & registered in Jan 06 and initially came with version (I think 4.06). My dealer says that they tried to update it BEFORE I took delivery of the car (they had rec'd a Chrysler bulletin telling them that they all needed doing) but they were unable to get mine to change at the time.

They then got a upgrade/new version/patch for their "StarScan" (master Chrysler computer) and when my car went back about 1 month later it was upgraded to 4.08. In fairness to my dealer, he did not know what version the CCN was before or after - It was me that told him via the EVIC Easter Egg method.

He did tell me that if you were up here, he'd have a quick look and see what he could do for you - not much use to you when you are in London.

Your dealers either talking pants, or genuinely doesn't know. Please remember that the 300C is still a very low volume car in the UK and the dealers knowledge will be getting built up as he goes along. In quite a few instances, it has been ME telling my dealer (both service & sales) about things that I have found on these forums.

Perhaps talk to your dealer about a chap you know in the North of England who has a 300C CRD and who HAS had his EVIC "flashed", but the dealer had had to get the latest version of StarScan to do it.

Alternatively, if you are in an area where there are other 300C dealers, mabye ask a service manager there for a second opinion.

MTC

p.s. pausing the CD is not an issue for me as I don't have any Sat Nav Issues. Must be a pain in the bum if you do.

Hi Murphy

I got my 6 Disc changer fitted today - yippee! Seems pretty good and does allow you to display track info etc. If you hold down the "info" button for a few seconds, it will lock the display onto the track details, rather than the time counter.

It doesn't play random between different albums, or between discs, but I suppose I can live with that. A bit clattery when changing discs as well, just like my old Ford.

What it does allow me to do is listen to recordings from internet radio via MP3 which I've been wanting to do for years. At this point can I make a shameless off-topic plug for Radio Caroline - Europes First and Only Album Station http://www.radiocaroline.co.uk ok better not then -even though IMO its the best classic rock & album station - still has a ship too.

Sorry about that, anyway, I also tried to get them to upgrade my EVIC today (still on 4.07), but apparently - ahem - they have had problems trying this before and their computer is in Glasgow today??? I may have to take your dealer up on their offer when I am next passing the Lake district Mr Cat?

A little 'off topic', but I periodically listen to Radio Veronica's internet feed from The Netherlands. Does Radio Caroline offer the same type of internet feed? Thanks.

BTW, I also opted for the 6-CD changer without Nav, but with cassette tape capability as I also have an extensive collection of cassette tapes...plus it works well for my portable MP3 player's cassette adapter.

Yes Caroline offers various options, the best being the abacast stream at http://sc1.abacast.com:8105/ If you plug that url into winamp that will get you started.

There are also real player & windows media player options listed if you go here: http://radiocaroline.servemp3.com/

Hope this is of use.

Cheers

Ahh Just

you've just saved me a forum search. I knew that I was talking to someone who wanted to know when my 6 disc changer was coming, but I couldn't remember who it was - mystery solved.

Now can i show my ignorance for a moment. My favourite listening material when I'm on the move is Audio CD books. Some of these can go over 16 CDs which is the main reason I wanted a stacker. I'm a bit of a dinosoar when it comes to MP3 and the likes, please tell me if I've got this right. I could get my 16 Audio cd's, copy them to my computer, and then put them onto my own cd-r (rw). Have I got that right ? And if I did that, how mnay audio cds (each is typically an hour long) could I get onto a rewritten CD (roughly). Please, if you are going to answer my question, speak slowly and use small words.

As regards the EVIC upgrade, Bentley Black tells me that he has just been "flashed" up to version 4.11 dated Jan 06, so when my car goes in tomorrow I'll ask for the same - and I'll tell you how I get on.

MTC

p.s. Just - hows your beastie doing for you ?

Well, my dear cat, you will probably get about 10 hours worth onto an MP3 disc, so you could fit the 16 onto 2 discs.

All you need is either Windows media player (yuk, I hate it) or a free utility I use quite a lot called "CDex" (freeware) http://www.download.com/CDex/3000-2140-10226370.html to convert the audio CDs to MP3. Then just burn them to CD-R (or RW - although i've not tried RWs in the new stacker yet). If you're using CDex, use the "CDDB" option to automatically encode all the title information (it gets it all from an internet database of CD info).

Hope that wasn't too technical....let me know how you get on.

Well, nice of you to ask, I am absolutely loving it, it gets better every time I drive it, and I will be driving it much more when my old car goes back at the end of next week. I've now done exactly 1000 miles, although I'm still taking it easy, I've put my foot down fairly hard once or twice, and the power feels awesome.

Still lots of admiring looks, & my neighbours all seem v.impressed!

I'm looking forward to a couple of long trips around easter visiting family etc, so I'll give an update after that.

Cheers, Just

Hi Just

thanks for the advice on the MP3 ness, if I'd have thought of that before I could have saved myself a multi-changer upgrade

I'll have a dabble at that this weekend.

I'm glad that your car is doing the business for you. Ithink it was Belmont who said that the car really comes alive about 5000 miles in. With 5500 miles on Arnie - he's right !
