What happens to your parts when you dealer upgrade/replace ?

On a recent thread we were discussing asking for your "parts" back when you do a dealer replacement or upgrade for something on a 300C. I pointed out that as the parts were paid for they belonged to you and that you should be given them back - even though in reality, you have to ASK for them to be returned.

Tootling around Ebay last night I came across this 300C CD player. I wonder where that came from ?

Surely not someone who has just upgraded a single Cd to a stacker ?

And the details of the vendor go directly to the Chrysler dealership at Tonbridge (Steve in parts).

Of course if it is an upgrade, the owner may have been offered a £200-£250 credit against his upgrade, and naturtally if I've got it wrong, I'll be happy to be corrected.

MTC

p.s and the cheeky sod says that buying it direct from your DC dealer would cost in excess of £800 !!

Murph

I would imagine that there were a few cars like mine which were ordered with the 6cd changer, but because they were unavailable at the time of build, were delivered with the single CD. That means that there are probably a few single cd players doing the rounds now.

However, I was told that these are "keyed" to your chassis number and won't work in another car?

Difficult to see what the market is for something like this - who would want one anyway?

Hi Just

Like I said in my post I am happy to be corrected if I've got it wrong. (by the way, I trtied to order a stacker for Arnie at the time but the DC computer just rejected my order unless I went for the Sat Nav).

Funny that the "vendor" never mentioned that you would have to get the CD player keyed in though !

MTC

p.s. I hope that there is a market for single Cd players, because I've got one to sell

For us it depends on if the upgrade was during the vehicle purchase, usually when that is the case the customer gets the discount for the difference and we keep the part. Now if a customer came in with a single disc and wanted to purchase a Nav radio we would leave the old unit with the customer, they allready paid for it and it belongs to them. Many of the radios you see on E-bay, especially the single disc, are probably take offs from upgrades. Most of the Nav units are probably stolen, they are a hot item. We were hit for 4 units in one night, and another dealership nearby got hit for 12 Nav units in one night.
