SRT-8 Test drive

Those nice people at Chrysler UK sent me an invitation to take a SRT-8 out for a test drive when it gets launched later in the Summer - it would have been rude to say no. Roll on the test drive date. I hope that they provide fuel as well, if so happy days are here again.

& the UK price ? £39040 on the road - which seems very, very reasonable.

these days buying a SRT-8 is not only nonsense (providing driving rules and police actions) but also a kind of financial suicide (soon petrol barrel @ 100 dollars...) in european countries.

they are very courageous in trying to sell such cars in europe !

Not courageous....They recognize a market....I'm sure BP isn't stupid for offering 102 octane in the UK soon.....Same market.

UK is not really in Europe... for the money (still pounds and no euro) and for the petrol taxes perhaps it's a reason why BP octane 102 and SRT-8 have a market in UK...?

I have absolutely no/zilch/nada/zero/none etc etc intention of actually buying an SRT-8, but I'm really, reallu looking forward to the idea of taking one out for a thrash (sorry roadtest) for the day. The running costs for an SRT-8 in the UK would be horrendous to imagine (premium unleaded is running at $6.48 per us gal (£8.08 per uk gal) so I would imagine the 15-18 mpg that you would/could/might get would be an expensive proposition -------- but the £25000 that you have saved by not buying an E55 or M5 could always be put against the fuel consumption.

Hi Murphy,

My invitation arrived today. Like you I will take the opportunity to have fun with the demonstrator but there is no way I could justify the cost of actually running one, even if it is good value to buy. Do you think they will actually sell many? Filling the tank would be too painful an experience. Maybe they should do an LPG SRT8!!
For US readers this is low pressure gas. Diesels used to be more expensive here than equivalent petrol models (not the case with the 300C though). As an alternative, it is/was quite popular around here to convert big V8 Jeep Grand Cherokees and Range Rovers to LPG as they are really cheap to buy second hand (nobody can afford to run them on gasoline). The conversions are around $2500. The only reason I can reasonably drive a car as physically big and heavy as the 300C now is the fact that it is the diesel.

Not to worry. Those funny feds at FEMA have published a manual to convert our cars to wood-burners: http://www.gengas.nu/byggbes/index.shtml

Well, there are countries even in Europe where speedlimits are either less constrictive (like France) or even partly absent (like Germany). And there are enough people who can afford and are willing to afford the price of petrol.

I'm not commenting on the wisdom of all of that (heck while typing this I am looking outside to my cars), but believe me, there is enough market for a US muscle car like this one.

I drive the beast in Europe. She is sweet, and I only use THE FINEST Gasoline in her. She Get's a bit pricey. But Justification? I don't need no stinking justification... Just 170+ MPH, and a Grin.

As an american... Well... an american from the Motor CITY... I know what it is to have a BIG American Gas Guzzler.

I don't see driving a VW Polo, or a small hatchback car as being cool ( I am all about cool). I just could not justify it. It's just not... Well let's just say It's disgusting. I would kill myself if I had to do it.

Oh, and since I am sitting here... WTF is a "Ford KA"? Couldn't even afford the "R".

And the Mercedes A class? WHY? WHHHYYYYY????!!!
