Prices and service costs

Hi all! (and hi to Murphy the cat-I've come over here from Honest Johns!)

What are prices like in the UK for 300c CRD Saloons? Are they going for full list at the moment, or are dealers knocking some off.

Also, what are on-going costs like for a 300c CRD? Servicing etc?

Thanks

Hi Runboy

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for popping in and saying hello on the Uk section of the forum - I hope that the people on here can help you like they've helped me.

About the only place that I've found that is offering "GENUINE" discounts on the 300C CRD is LloydsTSB
which are offering the 300C CRD for £25072, a saving of £702. There are several online sites that are offering discounts, but I'm led to understand that the discounts magically disappear when you try and order the car.

Myself and several other posters on here have however found that dealers are prepared to negotiate on extras and especially on the fitting of extras. In my case, I got a very fair trade in on my Rover 75 tourer and the dealer fitted my own extras (that I'd brought in from America) for nothing.
So, in my case there was no discount, but I did get quite a lot of added value that made it (in my eyes) a good deal.

I think that my car was one of the first (if not the first) customer owned CRD's on the road in England and I'm nicely racking up the miles - I'll go through 9000 during the next week, but with my first service not due until 12500 mile I can't help you with service costs.
As regards running costs, I'm getting a minimum of 35mpg from each tank, and while Arnie had a slight thirst fot synthetic oil at first (2.5 lt in the first 5000 miles or so) nothing since.

And my car still passes the "twist neck" test :- every time I park the car up, I walk away and twist my neck to have another look !! Inevitably, there is already a passerby having a closeup of it.

MTC

Runboy, you know from my comments on Honest John how much I like the car, I hope that other people on here can back me up with their ownership experiences as well

I did my 1. service ca 1,5 month ago in Munich/Germany at 22,5K Km (miles??) and paid ca 350-400EUR (for full service) + new set of wintertires for ca 1K EUR
Problems:
What is surprising me is that my car has noisy "radlager" at 22K km - don´t know how it is called in english - left front side was replaced once and this week i´m going to have re-replacement on right front side. Another "bug" are the wheels - the paint is gray and starting to loose, will replace them now. Also windschield needs t.b. replaced because there is water between 2 layers and getting gray in one corner (my dealer will take all the costs during the warranty).

Hi Runboy

My experience is much the same as the Moggie (sorry Murph!), no discount on list, but a (very) small amount knocked off extras.

I am getting about 33-34 mpg overall but haven't done nearly as many long distance runs as I anticipated. Therefore I'm only up to about 2,800 miles on the clock since mid March, I'm trying to let the train take the strain at the moment on the longest business journeys to minimise my running costs, and get as close to the maximum 3 years on the warranty without going over the 60,000 mile mark.

I'd also be interested to know the sort of UK servicing costs for the 12,500 mile service. I'm not quite sure about getting the car serviced at my supplying dealer, although the sales side couldn't have been more helpful, their attitude when asked about the software upgrades for the EVIC was less than reassuring. They are also a multi-franchise site. I am a bit fussy when it comes to servicing etc, having maintained my own admittedly older BMWs & VWs in the past, and I gather for example these CRD engines are particularly fussy about which (very expensive) oil is used in them to protect the life of the particulate filter. There are a couple of other dealers I could use, but I haven't seen much feedback so far on dealers local to here.

Oh yes, still get the head turning (especially when clean - so only once in a while - ho ho.) and will have to stop walking into lampposts after parking up.

Hi,
I got the acoustic upgrade for free as it was the car in the showroom window, but I paid for the satnav, sunroof, polishy thing and mesh grill, so 29.5 k in total.
Also wangled free car mats. currently just over 2000 miles and getting 20 mpg

Hi I paid for a fully spec'd car i.e all the options £28000+grille from a local dealer when i mentioned the lloyds TSB deal ordered in feb and my car came a month early just in time for the march plate change,

problems only one the paint looked like Shi* in the sun due to swirls in the clear coat but i sorted it out because the dealer didn't know how to(will post how to later) other than that nothing.
MPG iam getting 28 at the moment with good driving but an occasional foot to the floor moment but this is mainly due to the weight of my 22" wheels and the size of tyres i have on but they are well worth it.
as for looking back at the car i have now learnt how to walk backwards all the time so i dont have to turn round!!!.

Happy DAys
