Track Rod End Gone

Just checking my car over in my own workshop before she goes in to the muppets for the leaking tranny fix and i find that my track rod end has failed.Anyone else have this problem???
The symptoms when driving are; light grip of the steering wheel with 1 hand driving normally, brake lightly and the steering wheel starts to shimmy, grab it with both hands and it stops
Thats why i checked it,there is loads of play.I havent kerbed it or drove it through big potholes, seems like cheap parts from the factory.

Mmm. I've got what I thought was a wheel balance issue, after the dealer replaced all 4 of my wheels under warranty.

I've got a vibration & steering wheel wobble between about 60 & 75 mph - most of the time, but not on certain road surfaces??

I thought they had just been badly balanced so got them re-balanced at my trusted local garage / tyre place. Just back from a 750 mile round trip and still the same wobble, really annoying. Any thoughts?

Its going into the dealer tomorrow so I'll let you know what they say.

Was there any explanation for the failure? It doesn't seem like "fair wear and tear". What is your mileage? Could it have been a faulty seal allowing ingress of dirt? Was it the nearside that failed? I've often found with suspension parts that the nearside tends to get hammered more because that's where the road surface tends to be bumpier. At least it was fixed under warranty.

Went to the dealer yesterday, they said that they would get the wheels re-balanced, guess what, I drove away from the dealer and it was just the same.

Back I went again, and the fitter came out with me, he could feel the vibration, so he swapped the front wheels to the back, and re-balanced the wheels again, after de-beading, rotating & re-fitting the front tyres to minimise the initial imbalance he had found.

All sorted now - third time lucky!

Maybe that brake issue is a known problem, I'll be taking mine soon because of vibration under braking conditions, but I'll surely place inside a big paper with 'PLEASE DON'T WASH THE CAR'. I would be very unhappy if they did it

MY MILEAGE IS PRETTY LOW,10,000 MILES OVER 2YEARS,YES IT WAS THE NEARSIDE BUT THEY REPLACED BOTH.IT WAS FIXED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE ITS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND PARTS LIKE THAT ARE COVERED,PLUS THE FACT THEY KNOW I OWN MY OWN REPAIR SHOP SO THEY KNOW I KNOW WHAT THE SCORE IS,THEY DIDNT EVEN ASK FOR MY SERVICE BOOK AS I SERVICE IT MYSELF
