First wash in 10 years!

Not me, the car.
I've always used the local hand wash for vehicles, but I couldn't face a school-leaver with a wet squeegee touching this car. So here's a question. What does everyone recommend as shampoo? I've got a pearlescent black which is going to need a wash every couple of weeks so I want something that will retain or improve the factorty shine.

Meguiers or a bit more exotic, Chemical guys extreme wash & wax is my staple product choices

I use autoglym then use their polish really great shine.

Make sure you have microfiber towels/mitts and a microfiber waffle weave towel for drying. At some point you'll need clay bar, polish and paint sealer or a carnuba wax...

Due to water restrictions at home I have been going to a high pressure car wash every week but been unhappy with the results. Now I finally got my own water tank and can now clean my car properly again!

I use Meguirs, but about any commercial soap designed for cars is OK. What you need to pay attention to is just like Tim said... the mitt, the method, and the follow up. Here's a video I found and posted the other day... kind of long, but full of info.. How to wash your car without scratching(Video)
