Thumbs up Drastically improve your cars handling for 20p

Make sure that your tyres are inflated properly !!!

When my new tyres were fitted on Friday, the fitters had only put 31 psi in all round (thanks guys ) and it took me a day and a half to get them inflated to the proper reading of 36 psi.

Once they were done, what a revelation - I was really, really surprised at how much better the car handled when they were inflated properly. It's really obvious (now that I've done it), but for anyone who doesn't check them to often (or inflates them to 36psi when they're warm) it makes a cracking difference.

p.s. from the EVIC tyre pressure gauge, the tyre pressures on Arnie start to increase after only half a mile.

Thanks for the tip, MTC.
I've just checked my tyres (cold) at 31psi (2.2bar on EVIC). I was assuming that the EVIC would warn me if pressures were too low, but obviously its not as sensitive as I imagined. Having read the manual again on this topic, it is clear that the EVIC will only warn of "significant" under-inflation, which presumably is not 31psi. So tomorrow its an exercise session with the footpump. Maybe my mpg will increase and my waistline decrease! I've just returned 37mpg over a 500 mile round trip to the Northwest, which isn't bad, but still short of your 40 mpg.

it certainly won't increase your fuel consumption, plus you should find that ride improves enormously.

I know Kendal well, the weather here is perfect, we have just had two weeks of 90% humidity which is awful, now its in the high 80's zero humidity...just like the med in summer... the reason we moved here!!!

I regularly check my tyres with a digital guage. Problem is the guage only shows psi and the EVIC only bar. So the tyres are 36psi when cold and 2.4 on the EVIC after about 5 miles driving. But after some 100 miles the EVIC is up to about 2.6 or 2.7. Its back to 2.4 when the tyres are cold again. I guess this is as it should be? I've never had to worry about this on previous cars because I didn't have an EVIC to tell me how hot my tyres got!
