Why don't we have the 7 speed gearbox?

I believe the five speed isn't long enough, I get up to 4322rpm in fifth gear!!! need more gears

The 7 speeds I've driven weren't any taller, just more gears. Not a huge advantage as far as gears go, but the "rev matching" downshifts would be nice.

Sadly, that's part of the extra special stuff that makes the more expensive Merc....more expensive.

What speed was that in fifth gear at 4322 rpm?? You may need a speedometer with 200 mph on it. Could it be in 4th gear under acceleration? Fifth gear is only for cruising.

Emmm....You do need the 7th gear but as "Steve Levin" pointed out, it isn't going to lower the rpm much at 244 kmph.

Hi Blizzard.

Congrats. You must have one of the highest revving CRDs I've heard of at 4322rpm - I'm sure mine will only make it up to 4190 or something like that, and some more recent owners have posted that theirs won't go above about 3,800.

That must also be a speed record for a CRD - I make that 151.6 mph!

yep, 151.6 mph is the record, "Bill300C" did 140 mph (225 kmph) on a German Motorbahn, he said the car went up to 135 mph easily and was a bit of slow to get to 140 mph, forgot to ask him what's the rpm at 140 mph.

Remember, standard speedo reads fast, especially at 244k/h.
My car was pulling around 4000rpm at 140mph, (higher gearing with 22" wheels), and would go no faster.

Here we have it. 140 mph at 4000 rpm. Thanks "Bill300C"
Could it be "Bilzzard" on a slightly down hill run with tail wind?
