Thumbs up CRD Resale Values

I picked this up on today's Scottish Daily Record but it appears in slightly different format across numerous websites. Makes for interesting reading - let's hope the trend is never bucked!!

Chrysler 300c Is Big Resale Success

Oct 26 2007
ALMOST two years from the UK launch of the Chrysler 300C, residual value experts have confirmed the 300C has been a massive success story.
Martin Ward, manufacturer relationship manager for CAP, said: "A two-year-old diesel Chrysler 300C with 30,000 miles on the clock is worth 67 per cent of the £25,750 it cost when new.
"In contrast, a BMW 525D of a similar age that cost £31,115 in 2005 is currently worth £19,300 - 62 per cent retained value.
"When you bear in mind that the initial cost of the Chrysler is much less, and it has better standard specification, the 300C represents excellent value for money as a new and used car."
Peter Lambert, MD of Chrysler Group UK, said: "We always knew that the 300C would be a big success and have beaten our UK targets.
"With nearly 6000 sold, the saloon and touring versions are in danger of becoming a common sight on our roads.
"We did recognise, however, that the big test was always going to be the retained value of the cars after two or three years.
"Previous large US-designed and built cars have not performed anywhere near as well.
"The bold design is set to appeal to used car buyers for some years to come."

If anyone knows who CAP is can they post details. As far as I can trace they are something to do with Fleetnews.co.uk :: Fleet News online
Cheers ............ John

Wasn't sure whether to post this as part of the "Immediate Price Increase" topic, or this one, but I suppose you've all noticed that "trade sales" & "motorpoint" are advertising delivery miles only CRDs from £22,999!

Just don't tell CAP or Glass's Guides!

PS John - The CAP Black Book, and Glass's Guide are the car traders bibles on used car values, published monthly to the trade only. (bit like a pukka version of "Parkers" price guide).

Cheers

Just - currently on hols in New England - plenty of nice 300cs & Magnums out here - but of course no CRDs!

Correction: for "are" replace "were"; according to yesterday's Times ad.

Glad to hear that devilmaycare, when I first saw those ads a few weeks ago, I was starting to get a tiny bit concerned about resale values.

I am just remembering with a bit of a grin, all those people who told me I must be mad to buy a US designed car when I placed my order about 2 years ago.

Just

Still in New England - Portland, Maine to be precise, spotted a very nice silver SRT8 tonight near the sea front.

Looks like I spoke too soon - the ads have reappeared. Of course, we don't know how many are actually available at these discounted prices.

Diesels are getting more popular in Australia which should help to hold their resale value (I hope).
