Hi Bernie,
For any vehicle to be street legal in the UK it has to display a Vehicle Excise License which is a circular piece of paper naturally fancy printed and bearing the date of issue and expiry on the windscreen. These discs are not self adhesive but generally are held onto the glass by being supported by a circular disc of thin vinyl which sticks to the windscreen through a mixture of natural suction and static electricity. What we are doing is producing a similar sized paper disc with the Forum Logo on it and displaying it on the other side of the windscreen. Despite them being just paper we should get at least a year out of them unless we are blest with VERY strong sunlight this summer - and if we are then no one will be caring whether the discs fade or not.

Needless to say the Vehicle Excise Licenses which we are obliged to display cost us lots of money. Originally when the idea was thought up the then government created a "Road Fund" and the licenses were called Road Fund Licenses and a reasonable percentage of the Road Fund was spent on the roads. Over the years successive governments saw the motorist more and more as a milch-cow and in the mid-1970's they dropped all pretence at a Road Fund and renamed the licenses Vehicle Excise - an admission that it was purely another form of taxation on the vehicle owner. When the Americas raised the cry of "No taxation without representation" the British should have come out in sympathy.
Gordon Brown if you are reading this then .........
Cheers John

Thanks John. Yeah, leave it to any government to find any way possible to tax us for road use or any other excuse. Take our Goods and Services Tax for example. It was a temporary thing and I can't even remember how many decades ago that was, but it's still there.

Yeah Bernie,
Income Tax in the UK was introduced during the Napoleonic Wars as a temporary measure to raise finance for said wars. Now as I recall these wars finished up in 1815 - so why the hell are we still forking out in 2008. Someone made a cock up somewhere in their calculations - that's for sure
Cheers John

Here you go, picture of the logo in place, and just for Bernie, a pic of a UK tax disc, and that price is just for 6 months!

Thanks Stef! I see you guys decided to go with a plain logo and it looks great!!! The reason is because you want it there. Wish I could say the same for the tax disc.

Looks to me like it expires 31 Mar 08, so I'm assuming you have to buy a new one every year as part of your vehicle registration. We have stickers that are attached to our rear licence plate for that. Too bad you can't do that too. On the other hand, if everyone has to have it you probably don't even notice it.

Bernie,

In the UK you can buy your car tax for either 6 or 12 months, it actually costs a little more to tax it for 6 months, so by doing two lots of 6 months it costs about £10 more I think!

The rate of tax also depends on the age of the car and for most newer models since 2001 on how much CO2 it produces.

I guess it's like any tax, we hate paying!
