Frozen Hand

I spent 5 mins this morning (5:30AM) scrapping the ice off my car.

We were discussing this at work when one smug Mondeo driver said he had no problem because of the heated windscreen in Fords.

Does anybody know why no other manufacturer has picked up this option? It sounds like a simple addition, surely a patent could be got around????

I think we probably go back to the fact that the screen coating blocks GPS signals (and perhaps other signals too - I am thinking maybe mobile phones). There are ways round that problem - you can buy a signal booster device which goes on any other window and retransmits the signal within the vehicle. But I suppose at the end of the day it is all down to money. Meanwhile pay a visit to a windscreen repair place and get hold of the polythene bag that any new windscreen comes in. Lay it across your windscreen at night and trap the ends with the front doors. That will stop your car icing and it is the right size - perfect for the job.
Cheers John

CRD takes a bit longer to heat up though .... my Omega 2.2Dti had a "pre" heater that ran on pure diesel and heated the cabin long before the engine heated up. Only downside was that the exhaust for it was in front of the driver side front tyre, and on a cold day it looked like your car was on fire

Happy days .....

Its not just Fords.

The heated front screen is an option on a BMW Mini. It comes with the Winter Pack.

Problem is an easy fix . Move to sunny Aus. My son and his bride have just arived in your lovely part of the world. I spoke to him on the phone this morning about site seeing and visiting historical place. He says he's so cold and miserable and unmotivated by the low temperatures he can't get out of the unit he is staying in. It's a place called Crawley (does that sound right?). I suggested to him to hunt down a 300C forum member to show him some good old English hospitality and maybe get a little tour around the place.

All diesel VW Tourans have a Webasto pre-heater that comes on when the temp drops below 4 degrees. There can be clouds of smoke and the garage smells of paraffin. A few owners videoed them on Youtube to demo the 'issue' to their dealers.

I had the heated windscreen on a few Fords in the past but I found the heating element affected the view through the screen; this was quite a few years ago..maybe they have improved the mechanism now.

We have found a better way of keeping the cars frost free; a garage!
