CRD service schedules

hey guys,

skoda have a high mileage service schedule where they use fully synthetic oil instead of semi synthetic and it is 20k instead of 10k between services.

I asked the salesman at chrysler but he didnt seem to think that chrysler did this, but on here somewhere I saw someone mention service schedule "A"

so the question is, are there different service schedules available, for a CRD and if so how do they differ ?

regards

Scedule A on CRD'sis IRO 12,000 miles, Schedule B is high density city driving and 6,000 miles intervals. No difference in the oil quality a fully synth is used at all times. In a common rail High pressure Turbo diesel engine I'd personally never go a semi synth route.
Having seen the result of sludging in Saab engines using semi-synth, I just feel safer.

Yes, but how can I be sure that my dealer uses the correct oil if I don't provide it myself? I think it all comes out of a bulk drum.

The invoice on my last service was cheaper than expected, but showed "Mobil Super S" which is actually a semi-synth, but I've a feeling that was down to the lassie at the service desk keying in the wrong thing - hopefully.

I think the interval for the CRD is actually 12,500 miles iirc. I've actually been taking the "halfway house" and getting mine serviced at about 10,000 miles. So it will be due again at 30,000.

Just had my cars first service @ 7500mls after 13 months ( I don't do the mileage). The invoice shows Synthetic Oil (Low Ash ) . They also supplied a 1Ltr top up pack of Shell Helix Ultra AX which I trust is the same as used for the service. Cost of the oil was £11.06 per ltr plus Vat but they gave me a loyalty discount of 15% which is something I suppose.
Total cost for the service £311.42 inc VAT.
How does that compare with others?

Derick.
I too just took my car for its first service, I only managed to put on 5000 miles though! I was charged £329. For that I had the oil/filter. Pollen filter. Fuel treatment & engine cleaner treatment to remove carbon build up. The synthetic oil was billed at £99 alone. Only repair was to replace a faulty bulb in the licence plate light. Car was then given a two minute wash by Stevie Wonder... who had forgotten that a wheel needs washing not just on the bit visable as it parked up. He then dried it off with a Brillo pad. So now it needs to be re polished, after I have washed it properly myself.
I did mention that two wheels had a small amount of corrosion around the centre caps, then when I went back to collect it, the dealer, Marshalls of Peterborough, advised me they are going to replace three of the wheels.

Are they replacing tyres and wheels or just wheels? I've got corrosion on one of mine.

I also mentioned the wheels at the service and was told they needed to take photographs and submit them to Chrysler for assessment. I'm not too sure if they did that so thanks for the reminder, I will be on the 'phone today.

Wheels only, They are going to get the tyres swapped over. They have rung to tell me the new wheels are in, but I might leave it till the better weather arrives!

Oil Change Interval

Its funny how you can read a manual many times and miss something really important. I've just seen this note, under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES:

"Under no circumstances should oil change intervals exceed 7,500 miles (12,000 km) or 6 months, whichever comes first."

For Schedule "B", its actually 3000 miles or 3 months.

How many owners have been following this recommendation? As my annual mileage is less than 7,500 miles, so far I've only had a single oil change at 12 months. It also brings into question the Schedule "A" 12,500 mile oil change interval. Are you supposed to change oil at 7,500/12,500/20,000/25,000/32,500/37,500, etc, etc.

I thought I was beginning to understand the maintenance manual, but now I'm getting confused again. Has anyone discussed this with their dealership? This is what I will try next to see if they can clarify.

devilmaycare,

I have just studied the manual and see the paragraphs to which you refer which is on p.168 and p.194 and p.198 and the schedules on p.196 and p.198 back these up, but they are all for GASOLINE engines.

the schedules for DIESEL engines on p.204 and p.205 clearly say 12500 for A, and 6250 for B, and there is no "note" limiting it to a lower figure.

the note on p.168 is confusing as it does not actually say GASOLINE or exclude DIESEL, but I am sure that is what they mean and the later schedules make this clear IMO

thats my take

regards
