Horn sound when alarm armed ?

hey peeps,

on the 300 hired in canada and the 300C hired in the USA, when you press the lock button on the remote it locks the doors on 1st press, and blips the horn and arms the alarm on the 2nd press.

the useful side effect of this was that every car park we were in (which was millions) I just pressed the lock button when we went back to the car and the horn blips to tell you where the car is, and I found this a great feature.

On my test drive over here i tried this immediately and found that it didnt work and was disapointed and of course my actual car doesnt either.

anyone know how the horn can be wired to blip on the 2nd "lock" press on the remote? there must be a way ?

I cant be the only one who thinks the loss of this feature is a poor show

regards

elpirata

This function I think is tied in with the panic button feature as mentioned in my other thread. The North America owners manual has this info in it but our UK one doesn't.

As a matter of interest I saw a YouTube shot demonstrating how to increase the signal strength of your remote. According to the demo you should hold the key immediately under your jawbone and the cavity where your brain should be magnifies the signal. No doubt if we try it out someone will be online telling us that it is a surefire way to promote cancer.
Cheers John

Over here in WA(well, Perth anyway) this is a feature with a lot of the cars. Our Territory and Falcon both have that (1st = lock, 2nd = check). Also if it finds any problem like an open door, it will then sound a couple of times, notifying of the problem....

(Now that I think of it, could be a particular Ford feature of course)

In Holland (were I come from originally) I have never seen this feature. Apparently there is a European (or at least UK and NL) rule about that ..

Sounds like a great idea. Just one BIG note of caution though. Don't leave your keys lying around because the car thief who steals your keys can easily find your car by the horn sounding or the lights flashing as he moves around the car park pressing the unlock button. Believe me - it happens a lot.
Mind you he would also have to be blind to miss the best looking car in the car park with a chrysler badge - like on your key fob.

We also have a tendency to drive a foreign car, drink Australian beer in an Irish pub, grab an Indian curry or a Turkish kebab on the way home, where we sit on Swedish furniture and watch American shows on a Japanese TV.

First, my 2005 300C was delivered new in the USA. According to the Owner's Manual unlocking the door(s) has two options: 1) One press of the UNLOCK button unlocks just the driver's door, while pressing it a second time unlocks the other doors, or 2) One press of the UNLOCK button unlocks all doors. The selection between the two options may be made via "Personal Settings" in the EVIC (if so equipped), or by pressing the UNLOCK button for 4- 10 seconds, and while the UNLOCK button is pressed (after 4 seconds) pressing the the LOCK button, and then releasing both buttons. Redoing this procedure reverses the selection.
The "Sound Horn On Lock" is similarly selected: press and hold the LOCK button for 4-10 seconds, and then press the PANIC button, and release both. Redoing this procedure reverses the choice.

Try reversing the situation and see how long it takes for the "cheap lawn mower" to disappear, or even the "junk" for that matter! Simply waltzing off with two tons of automobile is just a slight bit more difficult, but not impossible!

Could save a trip to the local amenities site though, and anyway the car looks better on the drive.

I so wish there was a way of the getting the EVIC to go to a ""Sound Horn On Lock"" screen.

if anyone can find a way I will be their best friend (for at least an hour or so)
