Uh - sorry!! Did you mean profiteering by the filling station or by the resident MP? I really can't make up my mind on your meaning
Cheers John

And I thought it was getting bad when I saw diesel at £1.20 a ltr (119.9) at a local BP garage.

We also have a tendency to drive a foreign car, drink Australian beer in an Irish pub, grab an Indian curry or a Turkish kebab on the way home, where we sit on Swedish furniture and watch American shows on a Japanese TV. Rule Brittania

I filled up on Monday at a cost of £1.149, I then had to fill up again on Wednesday, at the same garage, and it had gone up to £1.189, for what reason ??????

It is a total outrage, I have checked back to September, and diesel then was only £0.989, 20% in 6 months, what exactly are they basing inflation on ???

I feel totally helpless in what to do about it, do we really just have to accept these outrageous prices ????

It seems as though the prices are going up everyday. They're obviously basing it on a price somewhere but don't seem to take account of the qty they already have in the tanks under the forecore (which they've paid the lower amount on). It's ok to say that they will charge the higher rate to replace the fuel but they never seem to pass the savings on immediately when the price of fuel drops (it always takes a couple of days).

I don't actually blame the retailler either, as they tend to make next to nothing. The last petrol blockade amounted to nothing as the degree of apathy amongst the populous is almost on par with voting in the elections (general or local).

drivers are being further and further pilloried in a press that's short on the ability to actually report news. With a government that is relies so heavily on spin they've actually forgotten to govern. And as for the other so called different parties? they're practically shades of grey (which drives the apathy).

I'm all for green issues despite the fact that (in my opinion) whist we're contributing to the overall greenhouse effect we cannot completely rule out the cyclic nature of temperature rises throughout history.

Sorry, i know i've completely strayed from the original post. What to do? I guess file a petition with the PM, complain to your MP and think about blockading. There will come a time when the pain of dipping the hand in the pocket is too great and with the lack of an integrated public transportation system people will say enough is enough.

I'm all for being forced out of my car if it's my car that's causing the problem. I do expect all the money i'm paying in taxes to fund something to replace it though not just the shareholders of the public transport companies who have no desire to actually provide a value based service.

(all the above are personal opinions)

Rant over, thanks for listening

Quite agree BMEWS.

The price of fuel was rising at a record rate even before this strike was announced - my work buys lots of fuel, as we are in distribution, and in one week (about 3 weeks ago) there was a 4p / litre rise in bulk prices.

All to do with the price of a barrel of crude - so they say.

But it seems to be like mortgages - if you are on the SVR or tracker rate, there always seems to be a delay between the Bank of England lowering rates, and the cut being passed on - in fact my mortgage provider had the cheek to send me a letter just after the last 0.25% cut in rates, saying they were raising their rate by 0.25% !!!

But then 2/3 of the pump price is duty + VAT, so who is the main beneficiary?
Also, current difficulties are being exacerbated by the strike at Grangemouth over the demise of their final salary based pension scheme. The writing was on the wall back in 1997 when the Member for Kirkcaldy removed the tax benefits on pension investments. Since then, onerous company accounting rules have put the final nails in the pensions coffin - except, of course, for state employees (MPs included).
