Angry The cost of filling up....

... sorry to have a moan but ive just filled up and it cost a whopping £82.45!

This was based on diesel @ 115.9ppl which is about the average round here (south yorks)

For all of our US friends thats $162.65. . .

TBH dont know how long i can go on justifying this spend!

I got 481 miles to that tankfull by the way

After living in Germany for 9 years, I understand your pain, brother. Even though I got cheap gas from the military, I had friends who had to pay all those taxes..

I look at gas prices like this; what is the next acceptable car you would drive, figure it's gas mileage savings, and then compare the comfort, pleasure of ownership, fun between the two. Sometimes, the savings might be a lot, but you have to give up the joy of driving.... high fuel costs are just the price of happiness. So I stopped even looking at the price of gas, as some here may know, since I just like to drive this car instead of a fuel efficient Honda or the like.

Maybe that mindset might ease some of your pain... just trying to help...

To be honest Steve I think revolution would ease our pain more. I just wish they would get on with it while I am still able and of an age to take part!!! Especially in the UK we are total mugs that allow successive governments to get away with using the motorist as a milch-cow. Soon the only folk that will be able to afford cars will be the politicians (and you think I am joking)!!
Cheers John

Think of it this way. I recently drove Lanark to London four adults in car. About £100.00 return trip including using the car in London. £25.00 per adult. I thought that was pretty good. I refuse to fly and if I can't get there by car/ferry I don't go. I intend to get the fullest use from my car and door to door i think it is still the cheapest most comfortable way to travel. In my opinion. My wife's Civic does not give massively better figures 2.2 CTDI 42 per gallon. Not half as much fun to drive and much more cramped. She prefers the 300 on long trips.

i guess here in the us we cant complain too much, i filled the gas tank yesterday at $56.70. I can understand that it is basic business, no matter what the price is the demand remains the same or even higher, so they can charge what the want. However the goverments need to step in and limit what the gas companies can pocket. Last year i belive it was 40 billion for exxon mobile. How about them pocketing only 20 billion dollars and kick some of that back to the consumers by lowering prices. ......

Our problem is not the fuel companies but government. Of the cost of (average) 1.15 UK Pounds per litre of petrol around 0.8 UK Pounds is directly due to government taxation. In the US you have Government of the people, by the people, for the people. Over here we have Government of the people, by the politicians, for the profit and benefit of the politicians. It has recently been coming to light how much these politicians of which ever colour or hue have been creaming off in undeclared expenses and assorted fiddles.

Oh, I know John... most of it is Gov't taxes. Love to try and get the cash from you somehow, they all do it. I heard one theory in germany about the higher taxes on fuel were also meant to simply make gas more expensive to force lower consumption.. who really knows. I feel your pain. Although in germany and my week in England, the roads were soooooo much nicer, I am sure they could figure out how to ease the pain on the little guy who makes just enough wage to buy the fuel to go to work..

Revolution is good... we did it, so can you! LOL

My point was.. if you aren't going to revolt, the short term solution is to figure it like I do, a cost of driving something fun versus a Smart car or Ugly Citroen or something..

"I am sure they could figure out how to ease the pain on the little guy who makes just enough wage to buy the fuel to go to work.."
No way Steve, Our "socialist" Government who are supposed to have the concerns of the downtrodden and poor in our midst just cut the basic rate of income tax to 20% from 22% BUT at the same time did away with a threshold tax rate for the lower paid at 10% - end product is a general reduction in the tax liability on those with a decent wage and an increase in the tax liability for the poor. Just a thought but could you not add Gordon Brown to your presidential election contenders - you can have him free of charge - we don't want him.
Germany has good roads - but you must have been in a very select part of the UK to reckon our roads were good. Especially in Scotland we have major trunk roads connecting main cities that are single undivided carriageway in each direction.
Boy have I a chip on my shoulder tonight!!
Cheers John

This bloody UK government dont only tax the fuel we have to buy, they steal a fortune in vehicle excise duty (which used to be road a fund licence originally intended to do just that - fund the roads). Now it all cash gets swallowed up in the general pot of income tax, and is then frittered away on needless projects which are always always always under budgeted just for the green light and then end up costing us the poor tax payer double or treble the billions of pounds. As John has already mentioned, with our politicians - WE pay and they PLAY. I love driving my car and as long as I can afford it I will continue.
Now then, can someone remind me what date is the revolution due to start, I'd hate to miss it.

Only in Britain do we leave cars worth thousands of pounds on the drive and lock our junk and cheap lawn mower in the garage.
We also have a tendency to drive a foreign car, drink Australian beer in an Irish pub, grab an Indian curry or a Turkish kebab on the way home, where we sit on Swedish furniture and watch American shows on a Japanese TV.

We're british - we don't do revolutions - our greatest outcry is a roll of the eyes as a quiet 'tut'.
