Checked with GH service manager. They use Havoline Ultra 5w-30 fully synth oil in the 300c service. I asked whether I could buy bottles of the stuff from their parts dept for 'top-ups'. He said the parts dept don't sell oil; service dept only have vast drums of the stuff but if I provided a container they could fill it for me! And I've been carrying round a litre of Mobil 1 all this time.

I asked the dealer I bought from about a first service and he too reckoned somewhere in the region of 300.00. He did go on to say that you could take the vehicle to any VAT registered mechanic and it would still be covered by the warranty.

thats a 1st then, they normally keep that info under there hats unless asked.Take it to a VAT reg garage and save a fortune,it may be a Chrysler but its not rocket science, just look at the service schedule, its a piece of piss.lol

May I add - it doesn't even need to be a VAT registered garage (although most dealers will tell you so) as a garages VAT status is no legal indication of quality or ability. As long as it is carried out by a competent person using o.e.m. quality parts (I use genuine and keep the receipts, no issues that way) then all legally will be on your side.

Am I right in assuming MOPAR is the OEM for the majority of the kit on our cars?

I will look into this deeper tomorrow(if I get a chance). In 2003 the BER act first stated that it HAD to be a VAT reg garage using genuine parts then (if my memory serves me)in Jan 2005 Independants can use O.E. parts instead of genuine but to be honest I didnt notice if the VAT reg part was abolished too.The reason they first stated VAT reg garages was to confirm that the garage was bonefide and wouldnt just shut down overnight leaving customers high and dry, thats beurocracy for you
