the question is, should i be peeved? I checked the label on the door and it seems to indicate that this vehicle was actually manufactered (wait for it May 2007!!). I pointed this out to the dealer who was surprised. Anyhow, it's registered as an 08 and i've driven it away and I have to say i'm totally satisfied.....

now.. if i've read the label right and it is a may 07 car (approx 1 year old) then that may explain the slight corrosion (which i'm assured will be sorted out under warranty). Have I really bought a "new" car?

I've done 100 odd miles in it already and caught sight of a mineral grey touring going northbound on the M1 (between J16 and J17 at approx 1800 yesterday). I'm totally pleased with the purchase. The manufacturing date won't effect the residual and it only had 14 miles on the clock. ahh, the paranoid in me thinks that I should be really pi**ed off about it.. but i'm not.

I was parked up in it yesterday when an old fella (i'd say mid 60's) literally stood in front of the car and stared avidly at the grille and badge. needless to say, he was obviously unimpressed upon finding that it was NOT a bentley.

oh well, just the rantings of a fellow owner. Now all I have to do is figure how to set everything up.

I'll take note of the software version, sat nav version etc and will post later.
I can't make out the date of manufacture from the number on the label. Is there a code for this?
Edit......Sorry, I wasn't looking at the right label. mine was manufactured in 04/07. I bought it on 01/09/07.

whether this is the latest I don't know. Would appreciate some comparisons
AE is the 'latest' version ie. AF due in 2008 sometime we have been told. AE seems quite up to date; only the new A421 from Bedford to Black Cat is missing.

tks rgr, I noticed there was some minor road errors near Banbury whilst out and about too. However, when I first got my disc based nav system in my last car the whole of the arlsey A507 bypass wasn't on that one. :-)

Still managed to find my way around though.

I was told by a regular who recently parted with his 300C that there was some doubt as to whether all copies would work on the mapping device player. However if they did and were read once then they updated the device and you could NOT revert back to an earlier edition of the map/disc. Also that there was a story to the effect that that particular device while able to read copied discs found them somewhat indigestible and the reader could incur damage and end up not playing at all. Perhaps some of our members who are more into DVD/computers/copying software etc would comment.
Cheers John

Hi john,

there is the possibility of copy protection being applied to the disc but it's mainly companies like Sony who use this. Normally the DVD drive will read any disc and if the software is readable it should run. I'm assuming the disc is read every time you start the car or put in a new route and would think it unusual to apply any particular software patch to the dvd drive itself. I could be wrong.

I can't find (having just looked inside the jewel case) any software licensing agreement so assume that I would be allowed to make a "backup" copy for my own purposes thus ensuring that if the disc becomes corrupted I will have some sort of backup of it.

Fs Ae Nav Disc Withy Motion Disable

Just been reading this post and it would seem that a backup can be made and used - if your original becomes corrupted. Albeit this post refers to a non-european system

Backups work

Updated backups work on the sat nav system, use verbatim disks and straight 1 2 1 copy Nero have been running with same from ex owner for quite a while (Disclaimer--- remember only make a backup of your own disk)

And if u r at the meet BMEWS someone might have a backup.

Cheers
