I hope you had a happy St Georges Day

I would just like to wish all you people out there a very happy St Georges Day. He is the Patron Saint of England. (Along with a few other places)

The Scots Welsh and Irish have their own Saints and tend to appreciate them more than we do so I'm just waving our flag a little.

The story goes that he was born in Turkey became a Roman Soldier and at some point refused to slaughter a few christians because he was one himself. For that he was executed and like all good sob stories we - or the church - adopted him.

Either way its a reason to smile, wave a flag and maybe have a drink.

Enjioy your day.

I have to admit I didn't know anything about him, so I thought I'd do a little search. I had an Uncle George, but I don't think he's the same guy. He never killed anyone that I know of.

St. George is the patron saint of Aragon, Canada, Catalonia, England, Ethiopia, Georgia, Greece, Montenegro, Palestine, Portugal, Russia, and Serbia, as well as the cities of Amersfoort, Beirut, Ferrara, Freiburg, Genoa, Ljubljana, and Moscow, as well as a wide range of professions, organisations and disease sufferers.

Being Canadian myself I guess I should now recognize him too!!!

Bernie

There were complaints in our staff restaurant today as there were no traditional English meals on the menu, unlike St Patricks day which had Irish Stew.

Probably too afraid of upsetting some of our ethnic staff..................................

Man this Country sucks, if only I could persuade the family I'd take up an offer of living in New Zealand!

How on earth can you make a fuss of a man who makes a career out of slaughtering endangered species? Surely it would be much more appropriate to report St George to the RSPCA - these days he would be locked up for cruelty to dragons just to impress fair middens.
As to your other comments Stef - it was the 40th anniverary of a well known speech at the weekend. Nough said.
Cheers John
