The New Lanark Meet-up

Well, we are now getting very close to the date for our meeting. There is still room at the hotel for any late-comers although if we have a sudden surge of them they might not all be sitting at the same table as the rest of us. They will however be nearby at the worst.
Everything else is in hand - arrival time is down to yourself but preferably not before 10.30am which is when I intend to arrive. Lunch is booked for 12.30 and as you all know there is plenty to see and do at New Lanark. For anyone cutting it fine for lunch our table is on the balcony - viz you go up the stairs to the dining room and at the top of the stairs turn RIGHT - there is only one table there and we are at it.
To allow all of us to establish identity I have prepared a number of badges with names and "handles" but for those who booked later on they will get a blank badge to complete. After the first wee while I would imagine that we will all get to know each other and the use of the badges will be redundant.
Also, some of you would have been wondering over the last week if fuel was going to be a problem. This certainly doesn't seem to be the case and I had no bother filling up my Stag when I took it for a run yesterday.
If you have need to contact me by phone my mobile number is 07962 422228 - (that's four, four times two, are eight). However mobile reception is extremely poor at New Lanark as it is set deep down in the Clyde Valley - sadly Robert Owen the mill owner never considered that when he was building the place a couple of hundred years ago - so on the day if you need to speak to me urgently then use the hotel phone number 01555 667200.
Finally, I want to thank in advance all those who are coming along and all the others who have wished us well - and taken part in the ritual rain dances on our behalf.
I certainly am looking forward to Sunday - hope you are too.
Cheers John

There was a tiny chance that I may have been able to attend. Sadly I am asigned to 'Family Duties' around Milton Keynes and the venue is just too far away. I will have to 'make do' with taking the Kids out on the Jetski.

I wish you all well and hope that the fuel and the weather hold out

Lots of piccy's please!

Better keep this in the public gaze during this week - any last minute folk wanting to attend give me a phone or PM me or post - you will be made very welcome. Definitely on count-down time now!!
Cheers John

OK - Leave Irvine on the A71 for Kilmarnock - continue on A71, pass through Hurlford, Galston, Newmilns, Darvel, Drumclog, Strathaven, Stonehouse, cross the M74 Junct 8 Canderside Toll and remain on A71 to Garrion Bridge where you join the A72 signposted Lanark (NB you will cross the Clyde twice in a few seconds here) - the A72 is the Clyde Valley Road so continue along it until you arrive at Lanark where you turn right to merge with the A73 to enter Lanark. Lanark has something of a one way street system and due to this you must continue up the High Street and then fork right at the top - signposted Biggar B7017 Bannatyne Street. At the roundabout where you join Hyndford Road turn right to go back down towards the bottom of the town again on Hyndford Road. At the bottom of the hill SHARP left into Braxfield Road by now signposted New Lanark. Continue down but bypass the car park and decend into the village. At this point it is certain that your wife will tighten her seatbelt!! Once you get into the village continue forward until you arrive at a square with "figures" (historic models of people). Turn right through the gates and then follow road to the right again going downhill - the hotel is right in front of you. I should be there first and you should park alongside my car - if not check with the manager as to where to park and I will then park adjacent to whoever was first!! There are one or two speed humps on the road into the village and one as you drive down to the hotel.
Obviously this is written for the use of anyone else taking whatever they want out of it - and - goany aw invest in SatNav wi' yer next caur.

Haha, it has satnav but I haven't used it as yet - everywhere I've been since I bought the car has been somewhere I know how to get to! I'll let the wife try programming it, she's better with some of this modern technology than I am these days...!
Thanks for the directions John, I wasn't expecting anything so detailed, more just a "Take the A71 and cross the M74" etc. It's an area I've never spent much time in so I don't know the 'lie of the land' down there - except the way to the Rolls Royce plant at East Kilbride, I could probably get you there asleep!
See you Sunday.

Indeed, I'll think of you all whilst slaving over a hot stove, making chocolate cloud forest cake and hoping that my pager doesn't go off!!
