Top Trumps - Chrysler 300C CRD vs New Citroen C5 2.7 HDi Auto

Okay, I was just reading Jeremy Clarkson's review of the new Citroen C5 2.7 HDi Auto in today's Sunday Times, and I thought the specs must be wrong.

Citroen C5 2.7 HDi (6 speed Auto)

208 bhp
325 lb ft torque
0-60 mph 9.6s
Max Speed 139 mph
Fuel 33.6 mpg (UK) combined
CO2 223 g/km
Kerb Weight 1766 KG

Chrysler 300C CRD (5 Speed Auto)

215 bhp
376 lb ft torque
0-60 mph 7.6s
Max speed 143 mph
Fuel 34.9 mpg (UK) combined
CO2 215 g/km
Kerb Weight 1910 kg

Just shows how good an engine we have in our CRDs, they are a significantly heavier car, only have a 5 speed box, but are more economical, less CO2, much faster to 60, and higher max speed.

I do like the look of the new C5, it is quite chunky, but looks nothing compared to the 300C. I thought that the paper had quoted the wrong figures, but on checking the Citroen website they are correct.

Incidentally the OTR price for the C5 £24,395, the only redeeming feature will be the likely discounts their dealers will offer to sell them.

You mean they are still sticking the flywheel onto the end of the crankshaft on the Citroen using a dowel and three dabs of superglue? Cos that's what they used to do.
Cheers John

I didn't get a chance Ray, however, the dealer returned the car yesterday, they found a leaking gearbox hose connection and reckoned that it was the discs, so they've re-skimmed them. I'll take it to work tomorrow and let you know if it's any different.

I forgot to put a do not wash sign in the car so I got it back wonderfully clean, with lots of water marks and swirl marks in the paint, must have washed it with a brillo pad!

They also used a fair bit of fuel leaving it with the fuel light on, they also moved the seat and mirrors and memorised it to memory 1 so I had to reset all that too!

Bloody car dealers, why can't they leave things like that alone, just move the bloody seat and don't memorise it, radio was set to Radio 2 as well, I bloody ask you!

the seat and radio thing happens to me aswell, its as if they have maybe updated the ecu or something and everything seems to be at factory settings-maybe-funny though how nobody complains when I hand customers cars back saying things like radio and seat settings wrong, maybe its because I leave the controls alone. We never move a customers seat position no matter how far or close the wheel and pedals are, plus the fact we dont get the blame for broken seats etc, etc.Up here for thinking and down there for dancing.lol

Moving the passenger's seat when the car went in for its first MOT was my reason for getting rid of the Merc. Well that and many other factors as well mainly associated with that MOT. My wife is disabled and had the seat set exactly as she required it (after the 3 years) and she was raging that some bloody pimply apprentice had mucked up her seat settings. On the 300C I have a cut out switch fitted so no one can move the seat at all - but mechanics the world over will always try and tinker with what doesn't concern them - personally I think half of them are looking for scran (obviously present company excepted). On top of the seat movement the car came back damaged - the MOT certificate had been issued when it was diagnosed with a cracked rear shocker and when I put the car into my local branch to get the shocker etc fixed they discovered that the rear caliper had bound on and damaged a rear pad - new caliper and set of shoes and sorry sir, the car is now out of warranty!!
Cheers John
