I believe the administration is hopeful that the speed of the site will improve over the next few days - so don't loose interest. Apparently the software running the forum prior to yesterday was damaged and the only way repair could effectively be carried out was to upgrade - it was a decision not taken lightly and should, after it settles down, work well for all of us.
Cheers John

C'mon it's the party line - what else do you want/expect me to say. But seriously, it is expected to improve as it settles in and gets tweeked by the powers that be over the next few days. Actually I don't seem to experience any slow down myself - why I don't know. It would be nice to hear from anyone else who doesn't feel it is slower (or from others who do think it slower) - that way we can establish if it is across the board or something only certain people are suffering from. I use Virgin 20mbs so perhaps that is why.
Cheers John

No problems with slowness here for me John. A tad slow yesterday shortly after we came online again, but it settled soon after. I'd be interested to know how many are using IE and how many use Firefox.

I agree with the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach.

The problem is - the site was broken and has been that way for a long time.

When this site was created, the software was limited in features. Programmers created several "ad hoc" hacks to create unique features.

Meanwhile the software evolved and new forums have many features that we could not launch without causing serious problems. We are now trying to clean up the software and set up for these new features.

Hopefully the page loading speeds (which vary from user to user) will be fixed over the next few days.

I am using IE and it seems to be the ads and sidebar ads loading that slows the site down.

I am on a 2mb ADSL connection a stone's throw from the exchange and it's taking 6 or more seconds to load a page. Scary!

We do ask for patience as it may take a few days for the techs to get all the wrinkles ironed out, but please rest assured they are well aware of the slow page loads.

Thanks!

I'm using Firefox and its only slightly slower than before. I've disabled the sidebar ads from threads. My download speed via cable is supposed to be 20Mb/s.

Wish I coud get the sort of dwnload / upload speeds being talked about. Still that's what comes from living in the sticks and using semaphore I suppose. Currently running on an alleged 1.9 Mbps using IE7 and pages load quite quickly.

Will it get better if I get a gold badge!!
