Software Upgrade 2nd December 2008 & Advertising Sidebar (merged)

I know most of you won't raise your eyes to look above the blue "Sticky" section and read the thread about the software upgrade. So go look at Chrysler 300C & SRT8 Forum - Announcements in Forum : European & Diesel Powered 300 Models for full details. This should actually take place commencing from about 9.0am GMT and it may well affect your ability to post until the upgrade is completed. I hope everything goes OK with the upgrade - these things can be somewhat fraught at times.
Cheers John

Well as of 18:58 UK time it's certainly working but:
- each page takes about 5 times as long to load..there is lots going on but not a lot happening
- the bit which I read (with all our wise words) seems to be increasingly squeezed by adverts down the left hand size.

Maybe I need a bigger screen or processor!

Hi Rgr and I would imagine almost everyone else.
On your first point - I think the download speed must be a local issue as mine is running fine. To the other point of the advertising down the left hand side of the screen. If you go to UserCP and then to Edit Profile thereafter to Additional Information you will find a number of options for the display of advertising. Me - - - - - - I disabled the lot. However you will find that while you can disable the sidebar on Thread Pages unless you become a Premium Member you are stuck with them on the Forum Pages. I hope this helps some of you out if you don't want troubled with a lot of advertising which for us on this side of the pond is pretty irrelevant.
Cheers John

You should be able to change most of that off by going into the User CP and clicking on "Edit Profile".

Hi Ray, follow the instructions I gave. But unless you become a Premium Member you will not be able to block the adverts from the Form Pages only from the Thread Pages. It does work - I have already done it. I would suspect that the reason behind the upgrade will be money somewhere - probably in the payment for the adverts or in the increase in numbers of Premium Members if only to get rid of the adverts.
Cheers John

My pages seem to take longer to load too, but my actual download speed is running at 7mb/s (not quite the 8mb/s I'm paying for, but close enough).

Not impressed with this so-called "upgrade"! Pages here are taking roughly 4 times as long to load, as a result I can't be bothered surfing all the threads now.
Why, when something works just fine, does someone see the need to screw around with it?
