Number Plate Bulbs

Not sure why but since buying my car I have replaced both number plate bulbs twice in 4 months and one has just gone again. Any ideas why ? , is this common ?. They were also blown when I bought the car. My next step is to replace them with LED's instead as they don't blow.... any advise welcome.

My LED bulbs keep going out on the left side of my rear plate as well.

I stock extras but this gets me thinking now....

Both rear plate lamps burned out on mine within the first 6 months after the car was purchased. I bought it new in August '05. I replaced the bulbs with GE bulbs that I bought at Wal-Mart. No problems since.
