Should my petrol cap be on a tether?
When I fill up there doesn't appear to be anywhere to put the cap, so I assume it should be on a plastic strap or something?

Just checking before a vist to the dealer.
I don't think so no, the flap has a small 'hook' on it and I tend to hang the cap on there from the key ring, that way I don't lose it!

Use a couple of cable ties - round the groove in the cap and leave a long tail. Then put the "catch" of another cable tie onto the tail - cut the other cable tie off at the "catch" and hang the cap from the little tag on the fuel door. A two minute modification that I did immediately to my new 300C.
Cheers John

I never even thought about it until I read this thread, now I feel all inadequate comparing myself with the Mondeo boys when we hang out on the forecourt... Seriously though, I just leave the key in and stick it on the pump. Won't forget to put the cap back on 'cos I won't have my key. I do now have "tether envy" though... :-)

Yeah, my US 300C petrol cap came with a tether, but I didn't like the fact that it wasn't a locking cap. I purchased an aftermarket locking cap, but it didn't come with a tether. I was a bit worried that the aftermarket cap might not seal as well as the OEM cap, since codes can occur if fumes escape, but it's been working great without any problems for several months now. I still have the original tethered cap in the trunk. (I was able to gingerly remove the tether without breaking it from the body of the car. I do like the idea of retrofitting a couple of cable ties to the new locking cap. I just might give that a whirl.
How do facelift model owners get on with the cap key wise? Do you just have the ignition key on your keyring and remove the metal key from within it or do you have two keys on your keyring (ignition and metal spare)??
I have just the one key and remove the centre to fuel up, I found the keyring cluttered when the two keys were on the ring. They should have just built the 300 with a self locking fuel flap like most modern cars have now days.
