Well, I've seen it discussed on here before and with my calculator out I can confirm my 06 plate CRD is in UK mpg on the EVIC. So, my 32-34mpg is really 32-34.
Anyone else done the maths and found theres to be US mpg?
I had to double check when looking at mine because I hadnt previously appreciated that one is mpg and the other is L/100km. It's the 100km bit I hadnt noticed before.
Litres per 100km is a common unit in continental Europe I believe. The thing that I find amusing about that unit is that it can be simplified - it's volume units divided by length units, which simplifies to area units.
To find out what your 32 mpg equals in area units, you can use the units converter/calculator that is built into the Google search engine. Type the following into a Google search box : convert 32 mpg to square mm
Feeling a bit thick now as I dont understand why I would want to.
Google says:
32 miles per gallon = 0.0735045573 square millimetres
However, setting this aside as I dont understand its relevance yet,
32 mpg is 51.5 kmpg
51.5km / 4.54 litres which is 11.34km / litre
100 kilometres divded by 11.34 gives us 8.8 litres to go 100km
so 8.8 L/100km
Have I got my maths correct?
Surely the simplified and more sensible reading would just to be to give me kilometers per litre on the basis that I buy my go go juice on a per litre footing and would like to know how far I'm going for each £1.04 or whatever!
Well your maths looks good to me. But whether km/L is more sensible than L/100km depends on what you're used to I think. You and I are used to the idea that a bigger number is better (mpg), whereas the continental convention leads to smaller numbers being better. And if you buy your fuel in litres, it makes just as much sense to quote a figure that tells you how many of them you need to go a set distance.
The square mm conversion serves no purpose that I can see, it's just an interesting consequence of Google's units converter I think.
Rough and ready calculator which will answer if yours is US or UK mpg.
9 litres = 2 gallons (approx)
100km = 62.5 miles
So, if you are doing 9 ltr/100km you are doing just over 31mpg. You can easily see if you are doing less lires/100km, you are beating that figure or vice versa.
My car (2008 CRD) is in US mpg and I have been told there is no software update to change it, so when mine reads 25 mpg, I am actually doing 30 mpg. But every now and then I swiotch to metric just to reassure myself !
my car has version 5.34 software in the EVIC dated june 06 (obtained from the secret menu by pressing music note and north buttons)
in the secret menu if for example the gas mileage is shown as 30 it will be shown as 36 in the normal menu (factor of 1.2) so it can be clearly seen that regular EVIC is imperial and hidden EVIC is US.
another clue is that as the regular EVIC value changes it will sometimes jump on the decimals such as XX.7 to XX.9, this is because it is simply multiplying the hidden EVIC value by 1.2 and then rounding so some decimals get missed out this way.
no fuel calculations at all are required to establish what your car is doing.
I dream of your mpg figures. Over the first 1000 miles i have averaged 13.1mpg with 600 miles motorway work and 400 miles round town. I was getting 20mpg on the motorway so god knows what it's doing round town.(Sounds good though). Mine is shown in uk units but can be switched to US on the evic.
I just checked my EVIC its 4.5 something or other version and the figures go summat like this....LT19 RT0 AVG37,does that mean I'm averaging 37 miles per gallon????.I bloody wish, lol, what does all that mean then?

Ahh, I wasnt originally asking about the difference between the evic screen and the easter egg screen - There has been speculation on the forum before about whether the normal evic shows US or UK mpg on UK models. It does seem like some versions of the evic software dont show uk mpg although mine does as the litre conversion fits.

Isnt that two fuel sensors in the tank, left and right and then an average? Granted the right 0 doesnt add up to this but I'm sure I read somewhere about the two sensors in the raw data.
