My supplying dealer want my 07 car back to fit 4 new wheels.... (had 3 new ones last year!) They say it will take 3 hours+ as they need to reset the tyre pressure monitor system. Anyone heard of this?
I have been rolling on 20" SRT rims without resetting anything & the system appears ok. well, the pressures come up as usual anyway!
Thanks in advance.

it takes about 5 miles of driving and they reset themselves, the TPM's are about £20 +vat each and we would charge £10 a wheel for the change c/w balancing and would take us less than an hour so you can have a coffee and a smoke and a laugh. Not many stealerships fit tyres they use places like Kwik Tw@ts,go find a local tyrefitting station they will be far cheaper and you can keep an eye on your car

Hi Ray. I even offered to drop off the rims in my van to save them having my car in, As I'm not using the 18" 's anymore, But no, they want the car in with the original wheels on.... So now i'll have to change the 4 wheels over, drive 20 miles there, wait 3 hours, drive 20 miles back & change 4 wheels back again ! great way to waste a day!
No costs are mine, its under 3 years old still...!
Cheers!
they wont do loose wheels just in case they're "not yours" if you know what I mean, looks like you're gonna have to do it then if its no cost but just time, resetting is done automatically after about 5 miles, probably less,I've done it myself as you can guess, lol
just realised that your 20's are not standard, did you buy them from the dealers?because they may be a bit sly and say that the wheels are not "standard" wheels for that car, they'll try and get away with anything they can.If you've bought them from the stealers you will be ok,I hope I'm wrong and everything works out

Yeah, I guessed that was the reason for wanting the car in, Hardly impossible to cheat them though, if that was your inclination though is it?
When I first fitted my SRT8 rims (already fitted with TPM's) they sorted themselves out after a trip round town! So I cant see what magic some overcharged for 'Spanner Spinner' is going to perform on them! Guess they charge Chrysler £98 an hour for fiddling with it on the repair claim form ?

ah. Didn't make that too clear did I?
Its the original rims they want to replace, but they dont know I now run 20" SRT8 rims. Wasn't going to tell them in case they turn ugly about it!
you hit the nail smack on the head, they make sh1tloads out of warranty,I darent tell you what new parts I've had for free off different stealerships that they've claimed for, been paid for and not used and some parts are a horrendous price and some give them to me if I ask and some ask for a small fee...if you know what I mean..looks like you gotta toe the line. It's wrong I know but it does go on.
Yeah I know, I had a BMW broken into years ago, The repairer charged for a door repaint on the claims form.... untill I pointed out the paint was still original.... "oh we thought it was going to need it, but forgot to take it off the bill" <raises eyebrows> yeah right
