When i had my CRD on the rollers we selected manual option as it seemed to rev higher than the auto option. Another suggestion - lower your rear tyre pressures for grip / traction. When you think youve got the set up right leave it for 1 hr to let the engine cool down then do a peak power run. Better results on a cool lump than a hot one.

If its more power your after i would suggest replacing the stock turbo with a bigger blower ( maybe something that spools up quick like an IHI VF34 ) these have a max output of about 350 - 375 bhp. I think bigger injectors ( flow rate of 350hp ) will be needed along with a decent large core intercooler. As for the manifold you would have to fabricate one which isnt as difficult a job as you think. You would need a flange for the turbo which can be purchased from Blue Flame exhausts in skelmersdale 01695 733100 these guys will fabricate you a new custom manifold if you cant do it / mate cant do it. I have an excellent contact if your struggling. You will also need a downpipe ( 3" at least ) and a sleeve to join it onto the existing system. You can contact my mate at AET turbos ( andy Nichols ) and he will advise you on which turbo to fit. Andy runs one of the quickest diesel cars in the UK ( 300 BHP 1.9 Golf TDi ) his knowledge of tuning diesels is superb. As for the fuel pump im not sure what the standard one can take - i would need to look into that. To manage the system i would run a piggy back ECU like an Emerald or DTA. A decent mapper should get the tank up to well over 300bhp ( wayne chip wizards rochdale or Rick wood racing Manchester ) I would also fabricate new intercooler hoses with a 4" diameter. Not sure what the stock rods and pistons can handle but considering its a merc unit i reckon it will handle 300 - 350 hp. It will be a challenge yes but if its set up right would probably be the quickest CRD in Europe. I have done many conversions myself and its great fun - just keep the bank statements away from the wife !!!

Yes its a 1.9 diesel golf and yes its 300 bhp

Lol - torque steer wasnt that bad believe it or not. I ran a quaiffe LSD with hooziers and launch control hence the 1.7 sec to 60 foot time ( 4x4 territory ) it did pull to the left on hard acceleration but this was due to the fact the N/S shaft was shorter then the O/S due to the position of the 6 speed box.

The most frightening thing was a top end run at Elvington airstrip - 174mph and i lost my bottle. The car was shaking ( doors were skins on hinges / no roll bar / plastic windows ) it did manage a 195 mph run on the rollers but there was no wind resistance slowing it down. I always remember Wayne at Chip wizards ringing me up laughing saying ive just nearly broke the 200mph speed barrier in you Clio !!!

Heres another sleeper that belongs to my partner in crime ( team mate in 4cyl under 2000cc class )

Its a MK1 scirocco Storm with the same powerplant but a larger blower / steel billet crank and taken to a 2.1 overbore ( mine 1.9 ) it runs 4WD via a Golf G60 rear axle / propshaft and an Audi TT 6 speed transmission. It runs an haldex launch control system to control the power.

It runs just shy of 700 bhp and has recorded an official time of 10.07 @ 141 mph at York Dragstrip - it will hit the 9's and were going for a record run in the next season.

Here is a vid of him racing a 800hp EVO at York - watch the EVO jump the light and then the scirroco puts the power down and passes him

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-prXT_ZdXo

Originally the car was a sleeper in metallic green but now its had a Berg cup kit fitted - some before and after pics.

when you see a fantastic plastic car you expect it to go fast and it makes me pml when it's all noise and no go but when you see a stock car going like a bat out of hell, thats nice, one of my mates came round to see me yesterday with his latest purchase, wasn't quite a sleeper but wasnt OTT,a Corsa fitted with a 2.5 V6 calibra engine(dressed engine),sounded nice, goes like sh1t off a shovel(loadsa spin) but he says he hasn't won a single traffic light GP as it has too much HP for the front wheels to cope with but mid -top end is better,he reckons it's got 280 hp but he says that it's too much for FWD
