CRD Intercooler rolling road results

firstly forget the last results i posted they were false and here is the reason why.

i had a leak at the righthand side of the intercooler because the airbox silencer had pushed on the hose and loosened it off, that is why my car was over heating aswell.
when taking the intercooler off the other day i had noticed it and have got some extra hoses to get round the silencer, so i have to change everything over and go back for another run.

so the results today were very interesting, it appears that the car has been tuned slightly before i bought it because the standard HP is 248.1BHP then i've adjusted the Spider and to my suprise it giving 278.3BHP, this is without the BMC Airfilter or the Large Intercooler.
so when i get chance and when the weather is fine i will swap everything back over and make sure i have a proper fit this time, so it should be around the 300BHP mark.
when you look at the results for the torque there is a big dip because he couldnt get it to stay in gear apparently its always a problem with autos on a rolling road.

I would select manual option when using a 300CRD on the rollers

I can't remeber how a stock gearbox in "manual" mode works anymore but doesn't it upshift automaticaly(daft innit, lol)but as I've had the predator for so long I know that mine will stay in selected gear even when it hits the limiter but I seem to remember that before predator mine would shift up in manual mode, perhap's you need to stick it in manual find where the torque/hp is at peak and hold the throttle there and hope the swirls dont pop, lol, sorry boys I had to get that last bit in,lol

Would selecting manual still work ? If I do that in Arnie, the gear box still changes up when you hit the limiter - or have I got the wrong end of the stick ?

Sniper, do your results suggest that the Spider is a very economic power booster ?

The spider is chucking in extra fuel. With a diesel it doesn't really matter how much fuel you throw in there as the unburnt fuel will simply blow out the back end as smoke. Since the spider is putting in extra fuel you get more power, but adding an intercooler will allow for even more of the extra fuel to be burnt. The intercooler on it's own wont add much power, but when combined with a remap or chip which introduces more fuel the intercooler will make some nice gains since more fuel + more oxygen = more power

You are right, they do give more power, but just not very much on their own.

The diesel engine is setup to burn pretty much all the injected fuel as standard so adding an intercooler wouldn't net any huge gains as there is simply no more fuel left to burn. Combining an intercooler with a map or chip which adds extra fuel is where the intercooler pays off.

Diesels don't care too much if they run rich or lean.
Rich = (unburnt diesel) black smoke from the exhaust
Lean = clean exhaust, but less power

This is not so true for a petrol engine!!!

(If you wondered why that BMW 330d went like stink from the lights with a huge plume of black smoke coming from the exhaust it'll most likely be because it's tuned and throwing loads of extra fuel into the engine) lol.
