Hi guys, typical of a 300c to throw a wobbly on Xmas Eve. Went over a speed bump ( quite gently ) and the engine just cut out. Managed to coast into the kerb minus power steering and servo assist on the brakes - quite an interesting experience as it happened on a tight left hand bend with odd cars parked! Being without any tools I could only check fuel level, fuel pump running, no leaks, waggled various wires and connectors around the engine. Tried turning it over a few times to no avail but as the battery was wilting a bit by now decided not to drain it completely. Green Flag chap arrived, listened to the story, including the prior history of the alternator replacement and the new glow plugs and their control unit repair. Went into the car and - it started! He checked that the alternator output and the battery were alright. Noticed the "engine management" light on the dash was lit. Put his diagnostic on the car and got the "crankshaft sensor" coming up. Offered me choice of recovery to house or local garage, which isn't open till Thursday, or to try driving it home with him following behind. Went for the drive home option , got 400yds from house then it cut out again. Onto truck and delivered to door. So, is this intermittent type fault indicative of the "crankshaft sensor" chucking it? Nick

Absolutely, 99% of the ones I have had to change only played up when the engine was hot, left them to cool for 40-60mins and they would start up and run fine until they were hot again.
Hi Simon, ta for reply - just went out 7.45pm and tried car and - it started! Have now at least got it on my sloping drive instead of a street parking bay.
On the basis of your expert diagnosis it only seems fair to ask if you stock the offending item - 05175763AB Sensor, Crankshaft Position , or part number 68039478aa for mopar, or A 6421530728 for merc as far as I can gather from a post from Paul@theC300shop recently?
Its a 300c CrD Touring 20063.0 v6 ( no fancy 5 litre SrT's etc for me! ) I have noticed a few posts about non-OEM units being possibly problematic but I'm assuming as you don't trade from Taiwan or South Korea that you must have confidence in your stock as otherwise we can always send our "minders" dahn sahf to pay you a visit? PS to all those reading this -Have a very merry and trouble free Christmas!!!

Hi Paul, no problem and totally understandable bearing in mind how they seem to fail without warning. Its onto the internet now and see if I can magic one up asap. Merry Thingmybob! nick
Hi guys, back on the road again. Into dealer thursday for diagnosis and check on wiring etc - definitely Crankshaft sensor. Garage ordered up new sensor which arrived this morning - except it was the CAMSHAFT sensor! When he queried supplier they didn't have correct one although their stock was showing one.( Strangely they said oh-we've had that happen before!!!! ) Being aware it was Merc based engine he tried Merc dealership and got it in an hour. Total cost £75 including labour and he also adjusted up the parking brake while he had it up on ramps. So, apart from all the f*****g about I guess it was less painful than it might have been. So, whats next? Regards nick
