Fuel pipes......

Went to collect some items from a dealer today amongst which were the "modded" fuel pipes which are near the alternator and are about 6 inches long with an internal diameter of about 6mm.

Then he told me the price, £38 something plus vat ffs!!!!!

Think I will look at alternatives - any suggestions?

I should co co... Hoses are a pound a metre at the most extreme and hose clips are pence each....if you know what yer on about should cost about a fiver at the most

No I mean your local General Traffic or Unipart/Partco,Linings &Hoses outlet will supply hoses and clamps but they sell it in metres and will have it in stock so you can fit it and repair it straight away,or let your mate fix it.....or let someone you can trust fix it.....lol

Something EXACTLY like that - and the price of £9.90 is for 10 metres! Enough to do approximately 30 cars.

Just to clarify, the two hoses are the ones located under the silencing shield on the RH cylinder bank? I have heard of hoses near the bulk head that also need fettling.

i had diesel leaking onto my alternator from my fuel pipe about 4 months after i bought it (2nd hand car, 3 years old). Ruined the alternator which the dealer replaced for free, but got stung with a £350 charge for a brand new fuel line front to back, was told it wasnt covered in the warrenty :/

apparently oil and fuel can drip onto the alternator, so later models were fitted with a plastic splash guard preventing it happening.

Fitted my guard yesterday - part cost about a fiver, dealer struggled to find the number at first but says it is part of a recall kit (so why charge me for it). Took about 15 minutes with my oversized hands getting scraped before it "clicked" into place.

yeah it was part of a recall kit but knowing dealers they'd probably only fitted if the customer asks. Apparently oil dripping onto the alternator after topping up was common, and i suppose if the guard wasnt fitted then chrysler could cash in on it later down the line? God knows.

I have just posted something very similar (06-11-12) and can say that I was charged twice that for the "Chrysler" authentic fuel lines - as these have been modified and can only be bought from Chrysler (half metal & half rubber). My alternator was destroyed as well so had to get a new one of these to. Had the "Heat Shield" installed and looks about as much use as a chocolate fire guard but lets see what happens.
