Good write up but did you drive an SRT design before you bought yours? I bought an SRT Design after owning a stock 2006 CRD and it never tram lined and felt much more confident on the road than my old one that had 18's on it.
Yes, I drove an SRT Design, 2010 CRD with 30,000 miles on the clock. It tramlined on rough roads. I drove it after driving mine, but before buying it, IYSWIM. Preferred the SRT Design interior, and the ride quality was good, but (aside from being a saloon and a diesel) it definitely reacted badly to those sort of "dug up the road" for a pipe imperfections.
I've even driven mine on the same stretch of road, and you're definitely aware of them, but with less pull.
Crikey must have been something wrong with my first 300 then as the SRT Design I had was much much nicer to drive, either that or the track rod ends were shot on the one you drove lol.
It tracked well and had no problems or noises - really, very nice apart from that one thing (and I didn't want a diesel ). Mine tracks straight and again, is free of noises, but it's got grotty tyres.
A lot of cars will track n those raised road repairs or white lines,at the end of our road from work and you turn right and due to the parked cars on the left you have to drive over or on the centre white lines and I defy anyone who says they couldn't feel the car track no matter what car,it's a nightmare on a motor bike,tightens the puckered hole I'll tell you on a bike.....lol

I agree, what I meant was the SRT Design I had was certainly no different to a normal crd running 18" wheels.
Yeah I know what you meant Simon, I was just trying to explain what the OP said about car tracking.........first time I drove a C with 18's I thought summat was up,back end wallowing a bit then realised that I've been driving on 20's for 7 years which stiffens the ride a bit on the lower profiles,I much prefer 20's
I am hyper-critical of car stability and steering - I used to get my X1/9 regularly aligned, and until I moved down to the Midlands I considered 'perceptual' millimetre-precision absolutely essential. If I couldn't 'think' my car around a patch of bad road, I was Doing It Wrong, and bad steering would really upset me.
Same attitude that ensured my 8 year old Manta was rolling on four new Michelins and fully aligned despite being a £1500 banger.
I prefer the 18s though. I really did think very hard about it, and I just don't like low-profile tyres for road use. Learned to drive 'fast' in things like 2CVs and Capris on big squashy tyres, I can feel what they're doing and want the isolation from road imperfections. Sure I'd feel very differently on a track, but I'm never taking a 300C on a track.
Hell, even my SLK had 17" rims when I got it, I ditched 'em for the stock 16s.
