Dvla
When I purchased my C I traded in my Jag but the Jag still had my private plate so the dealer filled in the yellow slip but let me keep the whole log book, he had not had the log book for the C yet either so he couldn't complain too much.
I went to my local DVLA office explained that I had traded the car in, and that I wanted to transfer the plate and cash in the tax at the same time.
Because I didnt have the log book of the new car I had to put the plate on a holding cert costing more money than a straight transfer.
They sent me a cheque for the tax a week or so later, and four weeks later a new log book for the Jag with the old numberplate on it, which I gave to the dealer in exchange for my log book for the C.
Ive just returned from holiday to find that a letter from the DVLA saying them that I had not informed them of disposal of the Jag, I phoned them and got an un sympathetic girl on the other end telling me that I should of sent of the recent log book for the Jag, I explained that they had had the information but on my private registration not the original Jag registration.
The only way I can deal with this is by paying up, or going to court which seems an expense for a cock up that should be dealt with over the phone
It just seems like the DVLA has no sensible management to it, if I had not reported the disposal of the car why did they send me a refund on the tax?
