Armorcoat????

http://armorcoat.armorauto.com

I have some body work being done to my 300SRT, where I rubbed a curb, and the body shop is suggesting Armorcoat as an option to replace the 3M clear-bra film.

It is a spray on coat, that can be buffed and waxed, just like it was clearcoat?

The problem I have with my clear-bra from 3M is that everytime I wax, it takes forever to remove the wax from the edges of the film.

I always have these outlines around the 3M panels, unless I spend a while detailing the edges.

I hope this is all making sense.

Anyway, my question is, does anyone else know anything about this product?

Thanks in advance for all help,

Zeibart (sp) offers DiamondGloss. Its a hard outer shell like another clear coat they put on every year. I had it done to my 2002 Chevy Silverado and loved it. It was like it had fresh wax on it all the time and it hasnt gotten a scratch through that stuff yet.

That's what makes this one so weird.
It stays plyable. It is supposed to act like a cushion.
I'm guessing that it would make the car feel strange to the touch.

What is the cost of this procedure? My concern with the 3M type shields may be prone to damage from rocks being thrown up by big trucks etc. I did see an older car with this problem but have no idea how long it had been on and what the quality of this product was.

I don't have a quote on the whole front end yet.
But for the whole front lip trim on the 300SRT, which is about 4" high, it is $100.

I'm expecting in the $1200 area.

Got the DiamondGloss on my black SRT-8. There are few words to describe how good this stuff works. Simply incredible. I recommend it for any black 300 model, as it makes washing the car simple. No soap, just rinse it off, the dirt and water just bead right off.

We do a large amount of the 3M film and really stand behind it. It is designed to take the impact damage from rocks and debrit, that is it's purpose, so after a few years you are supposed to remove it and reapply or polish the panels and sell.

The downside to the Armourcoat is that it is a permanent application. Once it is sprayed on it is there, You actually have to sand the panel down to remove it. It is quite soft and does damage easily. We know of a Ferari that had the nose sprayed with the product and then took a long journey logging some serious miles. At the end of this journey the application was less than desirable. It resulted in all panels having to be sanded and reshot, not really the best idea on a Ferrari. We looked at adding this product to our line up but decided against it after playing with a few sample panels and some gravel. It really marked easily and when we attempted to "repair" per the manufacturers instructions it became a mess.

We have been hearing of a new spray on product that is much stronger and more robust that is in the process of being unveiled. I believe there will be a booth at SEMA next week. But at the end of the day I believe that the added maintenence to keep the lines clean and using the removable film is a much wiser way to go. Plus when you compare pricing between the products you can get three cars done with the film versus the spray on.

Not that I am a comittment phobe but a permanent application over my factory paint makes me a bit nervous.

Just my 2 cents.
