Question Winged Emblem on E&G grill - "BEST" way to remove???

What is the best or preferred method for removing a Chrysler Winged emblem from an E&G grill? This is one of the Mopar stick on emblems that you add to the grill.

I am wanting to remove mine and need to know the easiest, best, preffered, whatever method to do this so as NOT to mess up the grill any and leave the surface nice and shiny.

Help?

Hey JFF,
  1. soften the tape using a hair dryer
  2. go behind it with some monofilament fishing line or dental floss to break it free
  3. rub the remaining tape off with your thumb
  4. then give it a once over with WD-40 and a soft cloth to remove the remaining glue residue
Good luck!

whatever you do, don't leave the hair dryer to close to the winged emblem. I had done this before, and it bubbled the chrome.. good luck

Wow, that's some hot dryer, I'd be afraid to use it on my hair!
Not too close and keep the dryer moving, should be okay...

You are correct Linda. And Hemmissey is correct. If you leave the hair dryer to close and in one spot for to long a period, it can damage the chrome. The preferred way is like Linda's way. Not to close, but close enough to let the heat penetrate through to the glue, to reactivate it. Always keep the dryer moving trying to heat a section of the Emblem at one time, not just one spot at a time.

Most likely it is attached in the same manner, with 3M double sided automotive tape. Look real closely between the emblem and the grille. If you see a gray or dark thin layer between the grille and emblem that is the tape. Heat away and use the steps provided above.

Did it work out? Is the wd-40 safe on chrome?

My technique exactly Hemeee, worked like a charm. I did this over a year ago and that stock wing is superior to the E&G (though the EG mesh grille is plain sick). At the risk of sounding maudlin, this brings back fond memories of looking at my grille in the garage waiting on the C to arrive.
