black plates in front facia

what is the purpose of the black plates in the lower fron facia? can these be removed? seem they block the flow of air to the lower engine compartment. has anyone remove them?

Don't know but mine are gone thanks to the belly pan and chin spoiler getting torn off.

the Overseas Spec models have brake cooling ducts that run from these locations to a spot behind the front discs for cooling, since most overseas vehicles travel at high speeds quite a bit more often then US spec vehicles.

For the North American Vehicles a "dummy" plate is used since the brake cooling ducts are not an option we can even get.

Easily removed: (1) plug-in clip. However, you have to raisse the frontend and drop the belly pan to get up behind the bumper fascia to access the clip.

If you remove them, what's behind them??? Could they be removed and just left out?? I have a base so mine are just plain plastic, no fogs or anything. I was gonna pull them out and get them painted, but just leaving them out is much cheaper and might look cool. Anyone have a pic of what it would look like???

I just received some E&G lower vent mesh inserts from Ultimatecarman45 to replace my plain inserts. They just clip inside the lower front bumper cover. I'm not allowed to post a link on the forum evidently, so go to E&G Classics web page and look under Products.

The instructions that came with the vents show what to do step by step. The ones posted with the part number below talk about the exterior version of the grilles. Not the same! Look through their products or call them and maybe they can give you a pdf of the instrucitons.

The interior grille is E&G part # 1099-010W-051F.
