Front License Plate Frame

Does your front license plate frame assembly cover an inch or so of your grille? I still cannot believe the factory just drills holes into to the plastic bumper to mount this thing. If you remove the frame, you've got 2 beautiful holes in the plastic bumper showing. I'm thinking of lowering the frame somehow and use the existing holes for the top of the plate instead?
Anyone change this around? I can see it may be a problem since the bumper is curved right there

Here's what many of us have done. There are a few threads on this subject:

Mine was in the trunk & the dealer installed it himself. I even saw the guy take it out. I wish I would have told them to lower it BEFORE they drilled the holes.

Yup, the factory DOESN'T mount it, they toss it in the trunk, where mine still sits...

Yeah, when I got my car, I asked the dealer if he would leave the front plate off the car. I remembered because my parents had just bought a CTS a month before, and I noticed how bad it looked, covering up part of the grill!

If enough people in states that require the front plate simply refused to put the plate on the front, the law would be abolished. Of course you may get a ticket or two for not complying, but eventually the cops would get tired of giving out tickets and word would get back to DMV to get rid of that stupid law. I live in a state that requires a front plate and I haven't had a front plate on my various vehicles (about 10) for the past 16 years. Never got a ticket for it. But of course now that I said this, I'll get a ticket. But I'll just pay the fine.

Hey Aspen, if you catch this thread, you may want to consider custom front license plate holders that mount below the grille, as I told you in your engine covers paint thread I am not a do-it-yourselfer and I would gladly pay for a modified or custom front license plate holder that allowed me to move my plate below the grille. I'll also take a 5% royalty for the suggestion. lol. I may not be a do-it-yourselfer but I am a business man after all.

was there a thread on here about how to modify the bracket to lower it? i did a search and really couldnt come up with anything.

what im planning on doing is dismounting it, shaving off the parts that stick out (with a dremel) so that it fits flush with the bumper, and re-drilling lower holes in the bumper so i can remount it. it dosent seem hard at all, but instructions on how someone did it would help a little.

also has anyone found the cheapest place to purchase the brilliant black paint so i can paint the bracket?
