Yes they do work, google for best prices. They look like a vertical frosted shower door when veiwed from an angle which would block photo radar's ability to read your plate. Your local constable would also not be able to view your plate from an angle when you are parked down town and may very well give you a ticket . I have an anti laser lens on the front of the X5 which has a matte finish to diminish the effective range of the laser, this combined with a Valentine one and paying attention works well. Unlike radar, laser must see you to get a reading and thus you in turn have the opportunity to see them. They almost got me last year by standing under a tree with laser and the car was well out of sight. I have yet to mount a plate on the C (looks so good without it) but When and if I do, I have an anti laser lens ready to put on. For now they will have to aim for the headlight. P.S. Anti photo radar and anti laser lenses are entirely different

Over here in Australia the authorities have outlawed the plate covers that block the view from an angle because they did work. A new product recently got publicity and the authorities are reviewing it now. It is a super high gloss clear coat that over-exposes the film in speed cameras. Rumour going around is that you can use hair spray for a similar effect but that doesn't last too long.

Just an FYI, many areas are starting to ban license plate covers of any kind. While some would argue they help keep your plates clean, it seems most are used to avoid radar and cameras. I know here in seattle they are illegal, and will get you a hefty fine.

Also, even if a license plate cover isn't specificaly illegal by itself, most states have laws against any device that interfere's with the police's radar. So if you plate deflects radar, or effects it in any way, it's illegal as well. Again, just FYI

Some states have banned radar detectors Virginia (my home state), DC, and CT and you will get a ticket and have it confiscated despite federal law to the contrary. The communications act of 1934 and re affirmed in 2000 gives us the right to receive any radio/radar transmission regardless of the source although we don't have the right to block them (but we do). These state laws have never been challenged in federal court. I wonder just how illegal some of these devices really are, radar jammers would be (if they really worked).

Yeah, here in WA it's ok to have a radar detector, you just can't have any device of any sort that effects the reading the police gets. There are some folks to who try and get away with those devices that send a specific speed back to the cop, but those don't work too well either. People with license plate covers get nailed pretty quick too.
