Bagging my C

I am putting air bags on my car this week. I have talked with some others and they are happy with the ride. I have owned several bagged vehicles and am very familiar with the set-up. I know this mod is not for everyone.....so don't flame me if you have nothing nice to say. Anyone with this mod have any feedback?

Does this cushion the ride or simply raise and lower the car? I don't like the jarring of my C on bumpy roads. I had a Lincoln before that had air shocks in the rear for a superior floating ride. The jarring is the single thing I don't like about my car. In Ohio, we have many crappy roads due to winter. I've noticed while driving in the south where they see snow only on TV, that the roads are much smoother and probably have no complaints with the C's ride.

Heck no I don't think this is a bad idea!!!!!!!! And I hate low riders.

Air bag suspension has come a long way and is actually very good for handling and performance.

I actually had the same thought that it would be nice to raise and lower the suspension for a cool low look (NOT slammed though) and the ability to raise the car to clear road hazards as not to scratch my front fascia.

Gimme some info, how much for the parts alone and installed?

Thanks.

To put forth so much effort in making the car perform while looking good, only to make it handle poorly? Is your car a cruiser or a performer? If you plan on throwing that supercharger on, I wouldn't recommend a bagged setup. It seems contradictory to me...

I've ridden in many bagged setups and I wouldn't be interested in seeing how the bags held up tossing a car into a turn with 400hp backing it up.

It's like putting Airbags on a Viper. Get my drift?

I used to think the same way, you should do some research. They're NOT all the same. You can get an air ride suspension to handle just as if not better than any factory tuned suspension.

BTW: Cars with a lot more HP than 400 have been using air bags at the track for years.

Hey BBC, do it. Is PSI doing it for you? And also, please post more pics of your car with or without bags. I love the VIP kit.

I am bagging the car. The brackets are from universal air. I will post more pics soon.

re:

I have a bagged pickup (2000 Sonoma) and actually worked at an air ride shop here in Canada (Altered Altitude Customs)... I've seen and riden in many bagged cars and trucks.

The suspension will handle differently in each application... even if the cars are the same... you can have identical 300Cs bagged... one with a certain setup and the other with a little different setup and they will each have pros and cons.

For example... the littlest detail... as in .. what valves and fittings you use can make a difference. The pressure of your bag at ride height is the most important. Anyone can slap bags on anything... but if you are driving down the street (normal) and need 100psi or more just to untuck a wheel/tire... it's not going to be comfy. Ideally you want to be between 60 - 90psi for normal driving... cruising or riding low is different. Also your alignment has to be done at your ride height (between 60 - 90psi on average).

Also... I know a lot of people will bagged rides don't have shocks on their vehicles... they will just put a bag in place of the suspension or the strut kit they install doesn't give enough dampening. Without shocks the ride is bouncier and more "floaty" (for lack of better words). With shocks the ride is comfortable and can be as responsive or floaty as you want it to be.

The more pressure in the bag... the bouncier the ride will be, the less air in the bag the more floaty it will be... find the sweet spot and your set.

As mentioned before... many track racers use air suspension... mind you most of them are custom vehicles using 2-links, 4-links, watts links, etc. and they are designed mostly for straight line (1/4 mile)... not really circuit. But an air bagged vehicle can perform as good as stock and more.

My $0.02

BBC,
At our second SoCal meet Cidedeal (sp?) rolled up and made everyone turn their heads. Wow did it look mean and cool. I went with him to the shop where he got his work done and I just can't afford spending another $5000 on this mod. His ride was better when raised but really bumpy when slammed. He told me that he could only drive at 35 mph when slammed. Either way the car looked sick when slammed and I wish I could afford such a mod.

As for the comments about performance, there recently a show on Hotrod TV that featured the Air Ride suspension company and they had race car driver test their cars with and without the set up. All came to the same answer and said that the mod made all the car respond better. I'd rather hear this news from pro drivers then advertisements. To each their own.
