Modifying stock grille.

Im Modifying my stock grille. I saw another members grille and he did it himself, so Im going to give it a try. I picked up a stock grille on craigslist for 20 bucks. I cut out the vertical cross peices so all you see is the horizontal bars. I plan on getting it chrome plated? and puttuing black mesh behind it. Anyone whos done this, your tips and input would be greatly appreciated. I'll post pics of my progress on the way!

I used a double sided saw, used for crown moulding to cut the bars.

Then I used a deremel tool to sand down what the saw didnt get, then I used a sanding block to sand it smooth. Next I think i might use Bondo to fill in the gaps.

your on the right track. here is the kicker though there arent many shops that chrome plastic i have not been able to find one. i cant exactly tell if you have the heritage grille or the bone stock grille with out any chrome on the horizontal bars. Most people that do what you do start with a chrome horizontal bar grille (heritage) then cut and bondo. then just paint gloss or flat black over the back parts behind the chrome tips of the horizontal bars and leave the horizontal bars chrome. If your using a non chrome bar grille your only option would really be to color match the bars.

On top of the chroming process not sure if one exists on plastic, the cost to chrome the bars will prob be at least 75-150 and at that point i would make more sense to just purchase the grip grille on sale for $170.

In regards to mesh customcargrills.com will have your mesh you need for like $30 bucks. unless you want a high quality electropolished which is about $300 a sheet looks a million time better but since your going black it will be a miniscule detail. If you were going chrome it would be a toss up...

i understand wanting to do it yourself....but all the troube of the work + what yer gonna pay for chroming...

you could just buy a chrome GRIP.

but there is SOMETHING to be said for doing it your self.
