Thanks folks, that's what I figured. The SM left a meeting with the dealership owner to try and help with this. He didn't try any crap like trying to charge for it. He's an allright guy, as SM's go. I'll speak to him next week about it and see if I can't get him to upgrade the Starscan on his own.

Thanks again for the info!

Success!

Got my car into the dealership after providing instructions as outlined in this thread. 5 minutes with an updated StarScan tool (v6.03) and SUCCESS! The service director was so pleased that he gave me an oil change and a 300 HEMI keychain in thanks.

Many thanks to all those who tirelessly maintained tenacity and found this resolution...YOU ROCK!

I'm new to the forum and I just wanted to thank everyone on this thread starting at about page 14 on through to the end ... after doing some digging within the 300C forum, I was able to get enough information to go to my dealer and get the DDL's enabled in my new 300C (it's only 3 weeks old). The Service Advisors and most of the Tech's had no idea about the DDL fix, but the Service Manager and the Lead Tech DID and didn't bother to tell anyone. If someone gets into an accident because the dealership didn't offer to enable the DDL's and the DDL's could have prevented that accident, that's bordering criminal. The swine charged me $39 to enable a safety feature ... (I just got the Chrysler questionaire - it's a long story, but I'm going to do my best to help take away one of their 5 stars) ... but the DDL's are on and they look good. I have to agree that it looks weird to have the DDL go out on the side that has the turn signal turned on, but as both lights are in the same "globe" it makes sense, at least from a safety standpoint.

One extra bit of input ... since you've all helped me, I want to give a little back ... I would recommend that you spend the $150-ish to replace all your front bulbs and the rear turn signal bulbs with the Sylvania Silver Star bulbs ... what a difference. (Be advised that your rear turn signal may not be what's listed in the owner's manual ... there's not a Silver Star for that odd bulb configuration ... if you get the same bulb as the front turn signal and file a sliver off of the center of each guide 'nub', the bulb will fit perfectly and work just fine. I contacted Chrysler Customer Service about the typo ... "gee - thanks - good bye" ... so much for customer service, but I'm already finding a lot of that with Chrysler.)

Anyway, even if you have to pay to get the dealership to turn on your DDL's it's well worth the piece of mind to have that safety feature working ... and it doesn't hurt that with the Silver Star bulbs, it looks really cool too.

Ah ha, you're a quick learner!

Stick close to this forum. There is more here than you will EVER find by communicating with Chrysler, at any level. This forum will enhance the enjoyment of your 300.

PS - For future reference, the Daytime Running Lights are DRL's, not DDL's.
Now you know what dealing with Chrysler can do to you. Hee hee.

Excellent information. Next trip to the dealer I will get this activated.

quote=mileshoover]Thanks Hemi300C for those leads. They led to the following info:

I am now advised that the DRL's can be turned on for US-delivered 300C's as follows:

1. Can be done regardless of headlamp style or mode of normal operation, whether auto on or not, or HID's (which are only on the low beams in this car).

2. DRL's are controlled by the body module on LX models (300C, etc.). There is no separate DRL module as was the case on LH models.

3. This option is turned on by hooking the car up to the diagnostic computer and switching from the current US country code to the Canadian country code. No additional steps are needed; it really is quite simple and easy; and should be at no cost.

4. All gauge settings remain in US measurements.

5. Lights enabled are high beams, at about 3/4 power.

6. During daytime use, all dashboard lights remain at normal settings. No sidemarkers or taillights are on (except when applying the brakes as normally done). If you maually turn on your headlamps during daytime, normal operation will occur. Wipers on, headlamps on will function normally.

7. When you turn on a turn signal, the DRL on that side of the car will go off temporarily to ensure that the front signal can be seen easily. It will resume the usual DRL setting when the turn signal is cancelled.

I will get mine turned on ASAP; suggest anyone interested print a copy of this info and hand it to your service writer.[/quote]
