Legal limit for tinting tails?

Does anyone know what the legal limits are when tinting the tail lights?

I have run across warnings similar to: I will tint your tails; however, it is up to you to determine legal limits.

Despite much searching, I cannot find guidelines. Anyone?

I would imagine in addition to possible federal rules, alot might depend on your local laws.

Exactly. I can't find anything. I feel so stupid.....maybe google is plotting against me.

In my state, the guidelines for window tinting is easy to find....tails, well that's another story.

Can't really locate anything either except for the general statement at the end of this..

http://www.jonstintedtails.com/faqs.htm

Maybe they might know from talking with others what you state allows or you can try contacting a state DMV or other agency??

Send a message via AIM to lennoxavesosa
i live in NY and have that concern as well. our tint laws say that the maximum you can have on the front and rear windows in 70%, but i plan to get my tints blacked out all the way, then painted BB to match my painjob by jonstintedtails.com.

i wish i could find the law on tinted tails, so i could print it out and carry it in my glovebox, as i worry i will probably get pulled over alot for them. if anyone finds any more information regarding this (especially in NY), please post it, as im sure alot of us on here will benefit from it.

anyone with the tails done been pulled over and ticketed for them yet?

Blackin out the tails is cool but remember you have to still be able to see them when on. I was behind a Magnum (grinner) and his were tinited not even total black out and it was hard to see. Just a warring is all.

On Jon's site, he describes his tint as available in three levels with the darkest only reducing the light by 15%. What did that Magnum have on the tails? I hope it was something different than what Jon offers....I don't want something that's hard to see....I was thinking a reduction of 15% wouldn't be excessively noticeable when lights activated, with the red being hidden when lights not activated....that was my understanding from his site
