check your 300 for a new recall dated 11/24/04:

go to

Nov 24 Recall notice?

and scroll through the entire thread.

Here's the URL for Chrysler (you'll need the last 5 digits of your VIN):

http://www.chrysler.com/webselfservice/chrysler//index.jsp?screenName=recall&country=us&emailUrl=go ToEMailForm%28%27R%27%29

THIS COULD BE VERY IMPORTANT; DON'T SKIP OVER THIS SINCE THERE IS POTENTIAL DAMAGE TO YOUR ENGINE!!!

add a transmission dipstick:

A discussion about the lack of a tranny dipstick on dodgemagnum.net yielded a post of the text from the service manual. ref post here (http://www.dodgemagnum.net/phpBB2/v...der=asc&start=4)

Ok despite the Service Manual detail on how to check fluid level, I thought about this and really that applies to any car where the level of the tranny fluid changes based on temperature.

So, with that in mind, why do this one different than others. I think it's about keeping people from putting the wrong fluid or excess fluid in and causing most of the tranny issue out there. This is what I gather from reading posts about LH and other Chrysler trannys for several years.

Now what. Well, I decided to pull a dipstick out of another car and try it. The 300M dipstick is too short and has a long handle that would not clear the hood. My 1994 Dodge Ram 5.9L dipstick fits perfect. It has a short black handle and the gasket seems to fit on the tube correctly.

With a cold tranny, the dipstick from the 94 Ram reads on the add mark or about bottom of the cross-hatching. I drove to the car wash and back 10 mile roundtrip, car running the whole time during the wash. The car and tranny are at what I consider "Normal" driving operating temperature, like when you check other cars. 94 Ram Dipstick reads full right at the top of the cross-hatching as expected. Voila!

I suggest those that want to, get a 94 Dodge Ram Tranny Dipstick. Part # 52117607 (stamped on the dipstick). I'm gonna pick up one next time I'm near the dodge dealer.

Customize your engine cover

Give your engine bay your own unique custom look. You can do this with $20.00 of materials and 2 hours of your time.

Here's what you need:

High temperature engine paint (I chose Hemi Orange satin)
Decals of your choice
X-acto knife
Masking Tape
Socket wrench

Start by removing the plastic engine cover by pulling up on all 4 corners. Here's what your engine looks like with the cover removed.

Detach the silver top part from the grey body by removing the 9 nuts with a socket wrench.
Clean all surfaces thoroughly before painting. I left the top section silver but masked the 5.7 L V8 raised lettering to paint Hemi Orange.
suspend the large grey cover by a wire in preparation for spray painting:
Use several light coats. This type of paint dries very quickly.

(continued in next post - only 5 pics per post allowed)

Customize your engine cover - Part II

Notice that the HEMI lettering on each side is masked off.

Painting is complete:

Remove all masking tape carefully and reassemble the silver top piece. Apply decals.

The cover is ready to snap back on the engine.

You have created your own unique "Hemi Statement" for your Luxury muscle Car.

Enjoy.

How To: Replace/disconnect your battery without losing your sanity, er, settings

Someone’s earlier post about using a 9v battery to save the comp’s settings whenever the Hemi's battery needs disconnecting is much appreciated--it saved me an hour & a half of reprogramming the His & Hers settings (seat, radio, mirror, pedals, SAT, etc.) when I chipped 'er recently. Credit goes to him for making me aware that such a device, and need, existed. Here's the detail you need to get hooked up with one and to use it.

I found the gizmo, called the Computer Memory Saver, part # 01050, in the battery accessories section at Auto Zone (*only*--the other major perps never heard of it). It's a well thought out little device.

Big hint: Don’t close the trunk with only the 9v battery powering the electrical bus—it has too little grunt to actuate the trunk’s only means of access, the unlocking solenoid. 'Had to grab a spare 12v car battery, attach the provided lengthy aux power cables, replete with alligator clips, to the memory saver, still firmly plugged into the always-hot accessory port in the center console (what an automobile!), to sufficiently power the bus to get the trunk open.

And if you’re concerned about the trunk’s utility light running down the 9v battery before you can complete the chip mod, battery exchange or whatever, just pull the bulb, literally. It comes straight out.

Little tip: The car's dash-mounted clock is not powered (or is insufficiently powered) by the 9v battery, so you'll need to reset the clock after reconnecting your battery. Nothing else required resetting/recalibration.

Good luck, and remember to press the little button, which turns on the red light showing that power is temporarily interrupted, during insertion and removal of the Memory Saver.
