FAQ - Aftermarket Exhaust Systems

Please note that this FAQ is currently in development, if you have any comments or suggestions please feel free to post.

General Info:
There are currently 3 Catback systems for sale on the market for the Chrysler 300c. These systems are also compatible with the Dodge Magnum R/T which shares the same powerplant as the 300c. The AWD 300 models require a different set of bends in the exhaust, therefore a different system alltogether.

Mopar Performance Cat-Back Kit
MSRP $899.00 Street Price: $739.95

This system is made by Borla and retains the Borla engraving on the exhaust tips. The mufflers themselves have the Mopar logo and name stamped on them. This catback system does not retain Borla's million mile warranty.

Quote:
Since it's a mopar product, would we be able to have the dealer install it as a dealer installed option and fall under new car's warranty?
You could have the dealer install it when you purchase your car. It would not fall under the 3 36 warranty because it is a performance part. Even though Mopar makes and markets this piece all Mopar Performance parts are treated as "aftermarket" parts and have no warranty.

In an earlier thread, some folks mentioned the sound got a little tinny at speed when the MDS kicked in. The 'cruising' clip sounded OK to me.

Ditto!

The Magnaflow looks the best, but FYI, High Horse lists this at $728.94.

I am looking for a system that will provide a bit more roar when accelerating, but won't be appreciably louder when cruising. Any recommendations?

Also, does anyone have any performance data for the Magnaflow system?

I've found the following for the others:
Borla 5" ------- +10-15 HP/30 ft-lb
Borla 3.5" ----- +16 HP/8 ft-lb
Flowmaster --- +10-15 HP/26 ft-lb

How reliable are these numbers? Is there any scientific reason why the four muffler Borla system should provide (slightly) more HP than the others, while the others proved (significantly) more torque?

I am looking for a system that will provide a bit more roar when accelerating, but won't be appreciably louder when cruising.

P.S. I'm also undecided as to whether to put an Airraid or a K&N AirCharger or Typhoon in. Has anyone found a listing of which states the AirCharger might not be streetlegal in?

Muffler

simply remove the suit case muffler and install a cross over pipe, car sounds wicked taking off, but will be quiet while cruising.
