FAQ - 20" Wheels & Tires

This FAQ is currently in development. Please feel free to post any suggestions or comments.

Quote:
What bolt pattern fits my 300c?
5x115mm is proper for the 2005 Chrysler 300. The 2004 Chrysler 300m was 5x114.3mm.

Quote:
What 20" wheel width is best for the 300c?
20x8.5 seems to be the most common setup for forum members. The 300c can accomodate 20x9.5 with no issues with the proper offset.

Quote:
What Offset is proper for a 22"x8.5" Wheel?
18-24mm will fit properly depending on the fit you want within the fenderwell. Anything above 24mm will most likely require a space to be used.

Quote:
Can I fit a 20x9" Wheel?
I am unable to find anyone running this setup. If you are, please contact me with your tire size and offset information. Thanks

Quote:
Why shouldn't I use spacers?
My dad always told me if you can't do something right, don't do it at all. Spacers are a bandaid to a fitment issue. Get a proper sized wheel with a proper offset and you won't run into any issues.

Quote:
What is the ideal 20" Setup then?
Most forum members are running 20x8.5" with an 21-24mm offset on a 255/45/20. This setup will cause no rubbing no matter how many dead bodies you care to stuff in your trunk. Another alternative is a 275/45/20 for a wider tire.

Quote:
Will the 45 series tire be enough to fill my wheel well?
Quite well. Image courtesy of 300CULATER on Helo Cash & Toyo Proxes S/T 255/45/20:

Quote:
Who makes a good tire in 20"
Pirelli P Zero, Continental SportContact 2, Nitto Extreme 555, Falken. Just about every major tire manufacturer now makes an assortmentment of 20" sizes. Avoid cheaper tires like Hankook or Kumo if you can.

Quote:
I can get a full set of wheels and tires shipped to my house for less than $1000. Is this a good deal?
You get what you pay for when it comes down to wheels and tires. The cheaper the wheel, the more likely it is to bend on potholes. Wheels CAN be straightened and repaired but only a few times before they become worthless and lose their strength. A fair price for a good set of 20" Wheels and tires will cost anywhere from $2000 on up. $2500 is a very common pricepoint for a reputable brand of wheel with nice tires. Pricing can go all the way up to $5000 for a set of 20" forged multipiece wheels.

Quote:
Can I install the Eibach Sportline or Pro kit with 20" wheels?
Yes, a few forum members are currently running this setup with no rubbing issues. A Picture courtesy of Black Hemi. The wheels are MC2ning FZ6 on 255/45/20 on the Eibach Sportline springs:

Quote:
Do I need to get my computer recalibrated for my new wheels/tires?
The dealer is incapable of recalibrating your computer to any tire size above the factory 18". Keep your wheel and tire setup within 3% of the same overall diameter as the stock 18" Setup. Use this calculator

Quote:
How will my ride quality be affected going to 20"?
Ride quality will be very close to stock, perhaps better (The factory Continentals are a bit rough). Traction will also be improved and cornering due to the low profile sidewalls.

I have 20" and I'm wondering can I (should I) lower it and what all does that involve? Can we have a separate "lowering" faq?

Good info Rogue...thanks. Also, thanks for the link to the tire calculator. I'm also contemplating going the P275/45HR20 tire/20" custom wheel route, but waiting until Goodyear begins to manufacturer a passenger tire in that particular size. Thanks again.

18" wheel weight

I've gotten a couple of different answers.....can anyone give me the correct weight of the stock 18" on the 300C. I'd like to try and keep my 20's I'm looking to buy in the same weight range or at least factor in weight when I'm looking to buy the new wheels.

Per Rogue's response (this morning) to your other post asking the same question:

"56lbs with Self sealing tires. Verified when I sold and shipped my stock wheels with less than 50 miles on them..."

Trust me, Rogue 'knows his stuff'; otherwise, if you're still unsure, then just dismount one from your car and stand it upright in the center of a bathroom scale...it'll be close enough.

I believe the 56 lbs...no prob there....but the wheel by itself is what I'm wondering....or I guess I can ask what does the tire weigh to back into the wheel weight....

My reasoning is that the real weight difference will come from the wheel itself and the tires I'm looking at should be within a few pounds of each other...stock vs. aftermarket tires. So I'm really hoping to get wheels within a reasonable range of the stock (or as close as possible). Thanks for your time.

Flip, I'll weigh a conti for you in the morning. I have snows on now so I'll haul one of the conti's out and put it on the scale. They are heavy puppies with all that self seal gunk in them.

I understand your concern for the total unsprung weight. I am looking for light 20" alloy wheels as well for summer use.
