Amen, MrDJ! That's just one of the things that makes these forums so NEAT. It gets a lot of good (and some not so good) ideas on the table, and the members can pick and choose what works best for them.

Purchased locking gas cap, drilled hole for OEM tether and inserted. Wrapped tether with velcro and stapled, applied velcro to inside of fuel door. Works great, did all my vehicles.

Velcro around gasoline is NOT safe, static electricity has been very well documented in many gasoline explosions. On the surface it is a good idea but Murphy's Law and the Law of Unintended Consequences make this a very dangerous situation for you and your passengers.

In the original thread I have pics posted of what I did. I Bought the locking cap, keyed to my ignition. I took the original tether and flipped it over to have the arc going upward. This allows mw to drape the tether over the lower outer rubber stopper on the gas door. Works perfectly, being careful not to knock it off. I originaly floated the idea of using magnets on the door to hold the cap. It got knocked to the ground a couple of times and metallic dust in the air would show up in a circle on the outside of the gas door some of which had to be clayed off.
Edit: Below is how it hangs.
